Okay, I got it.

The 1700+JIUHB has the potential to overclock more than 1 GHz over stock, which is pretty much INSANE as both processors and OCs go. at 43 bucks, it's like saving the cash and buying a 2800. It's just that simple.

... i dont see where you get off calling yourself a hardwaregeek if you dont know why that is so impressive, let see here getting a 1ghz overclock out of anyproccessor is impressive, not to mention a 61% overclock (pardon my bad math skills if im wrong), make sence now?

The j stepping of the 1700+ running at 1.5v stock has been a very good overclocker the 1.6v ones aren't that bad...

these chips are the slowest ones coming out of the FAB and since the tbred B core is near the end of it's life the manucfacturing process is about as good as it's gonna get... and the only reason that these chips are marked at 1700's is because there is still demand, they could have been easily marked as higher speed chips....

See the JIUHB down on the bottom left of the label, this is the stepping code... Basicly like a revision number on that manufactuing batch....

what Buzz said is basicly right, they could have marked these chips as higher ratings. but the demand right now is for the 1700+

When AMD and intel manufacturs chips they dont make a batch of 1700's and a batch of 2600 etc.. like you might think, basicly they make a batch, and test them and mark them at their at the highest rated speed they are stable at (or lower if the market warrents) its a little more complecated then that but , thats basicly it

So this way we get a chip that really could have been marked as say, a 2000 or a 2100+ for a 1700+ price

I'd say if you still don't get the big deal, just buy a Celeron.

Edit: Better yet....a MAC

It performs more like a 2700+ or 2800+. It is also willing when you crank that FSB speed up. Everybody seems to be able to run at 400 speed. And that's not RAM speed, that is CPU FSB speed.

so is 1700 the only one that can achieve 2.4 Ghz or its partners like 1800 or 2000 which can cross the 2.4 Ghz line?

Thats not true in most cases, the 1700 has proven to be the best overclocker and it just happens to be the cheapest one.

you ever reach a point in your life where everything sounds like an infomercial

well, time to give a little back

reasons why the 1700 tbred b rox....

1. its like a hard to find baseball card, or stamp, and is legendary to the likes of the Celeron 300A

2. its $43 and runs circles around anything costing that much...

3. 1700 sounds cool, especially when you add "...running at 2500 speeds" at the end...

4. it dont seem to have a clear oc limit, i have heard some rumors of people getting this chip to over 3ghz (insane fsb x mult)

5. it focks the prom queen, and its the underdog, so it ownz joo and your mom...

6. i got one

EDIT: btw hardwaregeek, is your name supposed to be a joke, because im rollin...

EDIT EDIT: better yet..... READ THIS

Sorry to revive an old thread, but my question is:

What will run benchmarks and things faster, a Barton OC'd to 2300 or a 1700+ OC'd to 2300?
