I'm unfamiliar with the new AMD's (using intel at the moment and have only used AMD socket A CPU's)
sorry

Checked the instruction manual? Is the CPU sitting in the slot properly?

EDIT: I googled around a bit:

I do not yet have a 64 bit CPU so I am afraid I can't offer much help.

Yes, the CPU went in with no trouble, it's just that when I installed the HS and put the retention bracket (took force to get it in there) and then tried to pull the retention bracket lock down..... but it refuses to go down

P.S. the manual just shows..... pictures.... no words.... just pictures.... not even a picture of the motherboard.... just the bracket, and the friggin lock.... this lock makes me wanna kill

Just make sure everything is inserted into it's proper socket or place correctly. My socket 754 retention system is a bit tough, but just crank on it a bit. But just be sure the motherboard is supported underneath it before you apply any significant pressure on it... or you might crack it.

Make sure you aren't putting the heatsink on backwards. I'm not too sure, but that might be the cause. Make sure the bracket part that goes through the middle of the heatsink isn't getting stuck in there.

To be honest, i'm not sure why it won't work. I never use the stock heatsink.

Well, I'm only using the stock so I won't viod the warranty . Wish I knew about that before purchasing a Zalman. Just a question, how would AMD know if I where to use the Zalman instead of the Stock HSF? If they can't tell the difference could someone tell me how to remove the "crap" Stock HSF.

Super Glue... no j/k

is the heatsink black and w/ two claw like retention brackets cause i had one like that and it took days to figure out. ended up i had to take the brackets back off and move the heatsink around cause it had to be in just the right spot and then u can lock it.

I agree with musclcars, take it back off and reinstall it making sure theres not some kind of interference between the HS frame and cpu cooler.
Its really easy to catch the edge on some setups and not see it.

Myself I'd use the zalman, theres absolutelly NO way amd could tell what cpu cooler you used.

Default amd 64

the 64 i picked up was really tough to get locked as well but with a bit of force it goes. seems to lock down very tight once it's on there but the wa the crank piece locks onto the heatsink assemply is kinda odd just use the manuals pics to try and guess what they mean the explanation is a joke

OK so like i have to throw out my pennies on this one, i got my Athlon 64 X2 and I seriously thought that i had broken my PCB when I torqued the heatskink in place but rest assured that eventhought the 64 bit processors are a bit thicker they have med thims just right and there is no need to worry!
