Wink Don't you just love Freeware?

Well.... I know I do.... my wife's computer "acted up" last weekend... MS Office 2003 just kept
'crashing....

Needless to say "I Let Loose, the Programs of Fixing".... "wink...lol."... did not work....nor did a
deinstall/reinstall.... bleh... but then again... it hit me... could it be the RAM went "sour"....??

So... did a 'boot-up from a cd with "Memtest 86+"on it.. which is Freeware, btw...

And... Guess What? A total of 5 errors on the 2x 256mb DDR Dimm's installed...

Replaced it with a single 1GB DDR Dim today.... It runs at 200mhz.. instead of the 400mhz
it could run at (courtesy to the Athlon XP1600+)....

No matter... according to the same cd I ran before.. there were NO errors...

So.... this Freeware 'Proggie "pointed" me to the 'flaw(s) and, eventually I did not even 'fix the problem
but gave my wife's PC a nice "upgrade" as well...

Imho.. that's just the "sweet point" plus the connection to PC Apex... it's all about helping eachother...

TDR

I SWEAR by Memtest86... it is one of the first diags I run on a machine acting oddly. Not to mention, almost every bootable Linux CD I own (pwn?) has it as a boot option. Freakin' A.

I swear by OoO! I prefer it over MS, BUT! OoO still has some features missing that MS has (like the table function where you take the pen and you can draw your own tables) and the fact it takes up a huge (well not huge) but large amount of ram.

Oh Firefox too!

Heres a good question, if windows was free would that make it better?

TweakUI is the hawt, especially the newly added Sync Toy, I use it on my laptop to keep my audio collection synced to my desktop.

Also, when I press ALT+TAB, it really wierds people out to see what he program is that I'm switcihng too instead of just an icon, by using the task-switch powertoy.

Two things:
I loved Powertoys when I ran Windows, I still use it occasionally for certain things on the kid's computers.

Also, Compiz on Linux just plain PWNS anything that Windows does, effects-wise. It does Alt-Tab previews allright... with the movie still playing in the preview! Microsoft = BEYOTCH!
