Exclamation Intel Pentium 4 HT 3.4Ghz ?

Im currently running a Pentium 4 HT 3.0Ghz, 800 FSB, Socket 478 and im wanting to upgrade since Ive had this for over a year now. Is it worth $229 to grab the fastest socket 478 processor (3.4Ghz P4 HT, 800 FSB, 1MB Cache) or is it pretty much a waste of time/money and wont be too much of an improvement? This is the one I was looking at http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...CP2-P4-34008PC

Thanks

It'll make a difference, but it won't be like jumping from a P3 to an AMD64.

I would take the $229 and buy an Opteron 146. Next, buy a DFI Lanparty motherboard. Mix in some overclocking, and you should be good for the rest of the year (see sig for Opty 146 results ).

They put the Operton 146 up against a few processors here one being a Pentium 4, 3.2GHz and It didnt seem to beat it by much... so the 3.4 looks like it could be a tad better. I could be wrong tho not knowing what alot of the results ment. See what you think of the results lol

Well yeah, at stock speeds (it's only 2Ghz with 1MB of cache). You have to OVERCLOCK it to get the best results. I would love to see a 3.4 P4 go up against my 3Ghz (stable for 24/7 use BTW) Opty 146!

At stock the Opteron 146 is a puny low-end server chip...but when overclocked it rocks harder than the mighty thor in the Motorhead mosh-pit!
