Default registered ecc ram

I'm sorry if this has already been answered, i looked for the answer a lil bit but have not found one yet.

does anyone know if a athlon 64 4000+ on a gigabyte ga-k8n pro-sli will run registered ecc memory modules?

i can get some 2 gb drr-3200 reg ecc modules pretty cheap, but i would like to make sure they will run in my rig?

Thanks for the info.

Well , as i cant seem to find a definate answer , i'm gonna go with NO , only because most retail desktop boards dont use it . ECC/Reg ram is genraly used in server applications. So , if i were you i'd go with non-ECC unbuffered DDR, oh and your board can handle 400/333/266 DDR up to 4gb (dual channel) .

If i find out more i'll post it up/

NO. Registered RAM is for the Socket 940 Opteron systems...you wouldn't want to use it anyways even if it DID work because it's slower.

well, went ahead and tried it, it will work, but the only problem is that my board only supports 2 gb per channel, so i can run two of them in single channel mode, but not in dual channel. this really blows. thought i would be running 4 gigs of ram. i guess i'll have to stick to 2 gigs in dual channel.

I also believe that because you are using ECC memory in a motherboard that doesn't support it, the ECC function in the memory modules will not be utilized.

actually my board does support ecc, whenusing ecc memory it activates the options in the bios. currently i'm running 2 x 1 gb modules of ecc on this board with the functions turned on. i know it slows it down a little bit , but my rig is primarily a workstation and not a gaming rig.
