| I've got this little (SFF) game box I built a couple of years ago, and the other night it went out on me. I was surfing when the screen went black. When I tried to reboot it just went into a loop where it would boot half way then reboot. I managed to get it to the BIOS and for some reason I now have the following: IDE Primary Master None IDE Primary Slave Artec WRR-52X IDE Secondary Master None IDE Secondary Slave WDC WD1200JD-00EVA0 and I can't change it. So I tried to Clear it and put it back to the factory settings by locating the Jumper and setting it to Clear CMOS Datat. That put me back to the factory setup but it didn't clear out the above problem. Next I tried shutting off the power, pulling the plug, and then removing the battery for 5 mins. Again, cleared everything but the above. At this point I'm out of ideas. The system is a barebones kit from FIC. It was the Ice Cube IC-VL67 (Socket478B Motherboard) Anybody have any thoughts on what I can do next ? | ||

| Try , unpluggin' everything and booting with just cpu and ram installed, just to make sure it boots ok like that, then add one piece at a time, to the primary IDE . start with your HDD that has your OS on it, then add a cd rom. IF it doesnt detect antthing on the primary try the secondary and if it detects, I'd say your primary IDE port might be shorted out/ defunct. ** Make sure you have the jumpers set right as you do this *** but i would at least try this before condemming the MoBo all together, also you could try and flash the bios, it might be the bios is corrupting / corrupted. But I'd try the above first, as I dont genrally like messin with bios flashing unless its a definate fix for a problem, but thats just me. Keep us posted on who it goes, and if you find the problem / fix | ||

| So I tried unplugging everything and then booting back into BIOS and everything was cleared. Then I plugged in the HD in the IDE1 slot, rebooted into BIOS and now I get: IDE Primary Master WDC WD1200JD-00EVA0 Plugged in the CD Burner into the IDE2 slot and rebooted once more and I get: IDE Primary Master WDC WD1200JD-00EVA0 IDE Primary Slave Artec None IDE Secondary Master None IDE Secondary Slave Atrec WRR-52X So now it's looking like either the cable ot the IDE2 slot (I don't have a spare cable) I can boot up the system but Windows hangs. Got it in Safe Mode, but nothing works (control Panel, scandisk, etc..) I've tried to Repair it with the Windows CD but no luck. So now I'm guessing the HD is hosed (there has been a lot of hard shutdowns) so I'm reformatting the disk (that hurts, lost a lot of mp3s and game saves) and going to try a clean install to see if I can get the system back up. | ||

| First try setting the HDD to master and pluggin' it in the primary ide CDRom to master pluggin' in to secondary ide make sure its on the right plug on the cable also , then see what you get it should read well like the way its set up if so try loading the OS if that works and it gets installed , then try ading another component | ||
