Is your heatsink correctly mounted using thermal paste onto your athlon? If possible remove the mainboard from the computer and look at it from the side to see if it is unevenly on top of the core. Athlons can fry in seconds without a properly mounted cooling solution. If it is mounted correctly...Does the POST show memory info? or freeze before that? Possibly your mainboard/BIOS has an issue with the ram you are using. Try other ram and/or a BIOS update. | |||||||||||||||||||||

| Apex Techie Wannabe | tried other ram at all different settings and apparently it really does not affect the booting . it seems to boot fine on lots of memory settings the problem is when I bringfsb above 236 any way I am going to take it back out and return it to the store that I bought it from and get a different make I really dont have the time for all this messing about just to get it running. It would be a different story if I was tryin to overclock it or something. any reccomendations on a new one ?? ![]() | |

| What exactly are you trying to raise "above 236"? The abit NF7-S ver 2.0 is a killer mainboard! I built a system with it just lack week. Could not have gone any smoother! I would say you are either doing something wrong, or your board is defective. To clarify, with your current hardware your soft menu settings should be: multiplier - 11 fsb - 133 ram to fsb ratio - 4:4 ram timings - spd You should not be setting anything to "236" | ||

| No, you are technically correct in saying it is a 266 MHz FSB chip. However, this is a longstanding maketing gimmick dating back four years. At least now with DDR ram it is a partial truth ...... Never the less, the setting is 133, not 266. Is your 1700+ a palomino, thoroughbred A, or thoroughbred B? What is the Vcore set at? | ||

| Maybe you just got a clunker, it happens. I've had nothing but good luck with my NF7-S. Currently running at 216/434 at stock voltages without a hitch. You might want to check the 100-133/166 jumper to see if it's in the right position, or missing altogether. 1700 runs at 133/266 by default. | ||

| CPU-Z will tell you your revision number without pulling you processor. The pin is located just behind the adb header on the upper left hand side of the mobo. The jumper should be on the pins closest to the adb header. I doubt that would be your problem though. It should come set correctly when you buy it. | ||
