Unhappy A7N8X Will not POST Please Help!!!

I have a problem with the A7N8x Deluxe not posting when I turn on my rig. (Nothing happens at all) Heres a list of what I have in it:
2000+xp t-bred
evga GeforceFX5200
Samsung PC3200 256MB (1 dimm)
WD 80GB with 8mb cache (no o\s installed)
52xLite-on cddrive

When I was building The computer (not thinking) I put the RAM in slot 3. Would that have made a diffrence? I have checked everything, I even took the heatsink off my cpu (once again not thinking) and destroyed the thermal strip on the bottom. Thinking that my CPU could run without a heatsink for at least 30 seconds i put everything back together and now it shuts off in about 2seconds (im thinking that its just the ASUS C.O.P. working but I not sure). PLEASE HELP!

Well I have tried memory in all the slots 1 stick 2 sticks at a time just to see the differance in speed... I could not find any regardless of the memory configuration. Did it beep at all? Check all the jumpers.

no it didnt beep. I only have one stick of memory in. when i turn it on absolutly nothing happens. i cant even get to bios. What jumpers are you talking about? Also now that I think about it I have seen a thread floating around with someone that had the same problem and someone replied saying that some of the boards came with cheap CMOS batteries and that all he did was got a new batterie. Dose anybody think that will help????
(by the way this is the 1st time any of this hardware is used, I just bought it all)

You started it up with no heatsink U may have fried your chip! Get some Good thermal past (Arctic Silver 3) ,clean all the old goo, put a thin layer on with a credit card and try again. You could also try resetting your cmos, moving the memmory to slot1 and re-seat all of your cards. The manual tells you about jumper setings, or read the forums section, make sure everything is plugged in the right spot.

If that doesnt work NewEgg.com has Xp1700 Thouroughbreds for $41 and XP2500 Barton core 333fsb for $93. these 2 have to be the best bang for the buck deals for overclockers!

As I have an ATI, I can't be sure about your card, but I know that if your AGP card is not the correct type, it won't turn on. There is a led which is red if the card is the wrond type.

I recently built a new rig w/ an A7N8X Deluxe myself and I had the same problem. I moved my RAM (I have 1 stick of Corsair) into a different slot. The mobo has 3 ram slots right? 2 are close together (one is black and one is blue) and the other one is spaced slightly apart from the other two (maybe half a centimeter). Put your RAM in the slot that is kinda off on its own. Mine posted fine after that. Your CPU should be fine. If your system turned off after 2 seconds, the CPU shouldnt have built up enough heat to fry. I believe it takes about 10 seconds w/ no cooling to fry a CPU. Forget where I heard that though... Hmm... Well, I hope this helps. If all else fails, try resetting the CMOS. That always seems to fix problems.

thank you all for helping out. yes the video card is compatible (no agp warning light comes on) from reading what you guys have said (exspecaly Seraph144 who had the same problem) I've concluded that it might just be that I was suppose to put ram in slot 1 and not slot 3. I'm going to go buy some thermal grease now and I will try again. I'LL post with results. Thanx again!

Also try cap-flashing your PSU by doing the following:
Turning the switch on the PSU to OFF and holding down your power button on your case, then turn the PSU switch to ON, then take the power plug out, and back in five to ten times.

Seemingly dead PSU's can be brought back to life this way

Now I get an errror saying that the cpu has been changed (i have a 2000+) and it shows that the mhz is at 1257 (or close to that) also my intrnal specker dosent beep but i think im might have to switch the wires PLEASE HELP AGAIN!!!

As for the internal speaker, yes, just flip the connector around.

Your proc should be set at 12.5 x 133 for a total of 1667 MHz.

Every time you pull a cpu you'll get the cpu has been changed error. Nothing to worry about.

It sounds like you fsb is set to 100. 100 x a 12.5 divider gives you 1250 MHz. 133 x 12.5 will give you 1670 MHz. Check your manual and find the jumper on the board for fsb and make sure it is set to 133/166. It should already be set that way. The jumper is just to the left of the northbrige heatsink. It should be on the bottom two pins. Then read your manual on how to set the fsb in your bios.

Your speaker wires are probably just backwards. Most of the connections will work installed backwards except for your speaker and hd indicator.

i went into bios and its set at 12.5 x 100, so ill just set it at 133. Also i thought t-breds need to be unlocked in order to set the cpu voltage? Cause I can set it. Does the mobo unlock it automaticly? Or maybe i got some artic silver in the L1? who knows?????

its the multiplier that you would"unlock"
voltages (if it is available in your bios)are adjustable regardless whether the chip is unlocked or not.

You don't need an unlocked cpu to adjust voltage. And unless you are overclocking there is no advantage in it. Most nforce based boards will unlock at least some of the multipliers on many cpu's without unlocking the processor itself.

The A7N8X deluxe allows you to change pretty much whatever you want, which is why its so good for OCing. If you want to change the multiplier, just take the multiplier setting off of auto and on manual. Voltage you should be able to change anyway. Should be set around 1.65 or something like that for the CPU (or Vcore or whatever its called in the BIOS). Whenever you reset your CMOS you'll probably have to jack your FSB from 100 to 133 again. I have another computer thats like that. It always defaults to 100 even though my proc is 133 (its a 1.3Ghz Athlon on a K7S5A mobo by the way). I'm not sure if you'll have to reset it w/ the A7N8X or not, just make sure you take a quick look next time you reset the CMOS. Hope this helps you!

If you decide to unlock your CPU later, Toms Hardware has a guide and video (based on the older Palomino core I think) they also have a good one at http://cluboc.net/guides/XP_Unlock/page2.htm that was based on the Thouroughbred
Arctic Silver 3 is supposed to be non conductive, Use a "Rear Defroster Repair Kit" (under 5$) from Kmarts or any place that sells auto parts. They also make silver conductive paint pens that are available on line (New Egg probably has them).
Dont forget to get some benchmark programs like Mad Onion 3dmark 2001SE, 3dmark 2003,(good for video card overclocking) and PCmark 2002 (good for cpu overclocking)
They have an excellent forums section here to help with tweeks so read up, bench it, tweek it (only make one change at a time) and post em !
