Default dual AMD mobo problems

Just wondering if anyone else out there has had a similar problem, and figured out what the solution is...

I have three dual Opteron(socket 940) motherboards, with cpus and coolers installed, and in all three cases, I get the exact same scenario: when I switch the rocker-switch on the back of the PSU to the "on" position, the system fans start spinning (i.e. power is flowing), but nothing else happens. This happens even if the mainboard power switch is not attached to the pins on the board. The only way to power off the setup is by turning off the PSU switch.
Am I dealing with a dead component somewhere, or am I just brain-dead? Any thoughts would be helpful.

RAM: 1GB DDR
mainboards: MSI K8N Master2-FAR (x2), Tyan Thunder K8S (x1)
cpus: opteron 242 1.6 Ghz, socket 940
PSU: antecTP2-550EPS12V
Video: Radeon 9600 AGP

Default Power supply?

I was just troubleshooting a similar Tyan Tiger K8W S2875 board and had issues with the Windows XP Pro install seeing both processors, but a simple solution is the potential of a power supply problem. I would double check to see if you have the special 8 pin power connector necessary for some of the dual opteron boards. You might need to change the power supply if you are lacking this connection (each processor gets two 4 pin connectors for power effectively).

His PSU has that covered x95.
I have experienced a similar problem with a bad RAM stick but you say it happens in all 3 rigs.
Do the mobos you are using have any special requirements/needs that are not being met perhaps?

Your spec's say your using DDR Ram , but it does not say wether it is regidtered or not and i know that the Tyan board you have listed takes Reg. memory.

As Godfoot pointed out bad ram but also non Reg. ram will produce this symptom.
