Default AMD driver question

I have a refurbished Gateway laptop
I just saw a review stating it runs even better with the recent processor driver update
anyway got me looking

in my device manager, the processor driver reads 5/23/2004
1.1.0.0

in the add/remove programs
the AMDprocessor driver was last used 9/9/2005 (september, 2005)
so I guess that's when it was installed

unless I'm wrong (and it is something else I'm looking at)
on the AMD site under Mobile Athlon 64
the driver version is 1.2.2.2 (may,2005)

?why wouldn't Gateway install the most recent driver in September

is 1.2.2.2 driver the right update
should I uninstall the present driver first

any help would be appreciated

i can tell you dont have much experince in retail...

when manufactures produce laptops (for an example) they make a stock image and put it on... then the laptop gets boxed and sits for a while... and then gets shipped out and then hits the retailers and sits there a while before it gets sold... typicaly once that stock image has been made.. they wont update it unless there is a problem...

example... when the blaster worm hit... best buy made a killing... not only fixing infected machines... but also luring people into paying 30$ bucks for updating and "optmising" the computers... that they sold off the shelf

Yeah I have to update all my drivers when I re-install from the recovery disk. And i can tell you that the processor does run a hell of a lot better with teh proper drivers but I can't tell you which ones are te most current I'm afraid.

Reza

should I uninstall the present driver first

I'm clueless to what would happen if the processor was temporarily without any drivers

or should install over top?

thanks

the way that the drivers for core components are made most of the time you just install the new one and the old one... goes away!

so yes right on top

Just hit update driver button it should safely put the new one on the system and remove the old one at the same time.
