uh oh...black square

from different sources (referring to bottom of heatsink) im getting "There is a piece of black tape. DO NOT REMOVE OR ADD THERMAL COMPOUND." Others are telling me to remove it and add compound. This is my first time building a computer, and so far i havent removed it or added any compound. What should I do?

Remove it and add no compound to the heatsink. Make sure the bottom is real clean, use alcohol to clean it up. Apply a thin coat, a very thin coat, of compound to the die on the CPU.

And be sure not to get fingerprints on the bottom, cause the oils from your skin will mess up the cooling capabilities
