Default opti board help

im looking to spend as little money as posible now so i can spend more l8r (when ive payed of the opti)
was looking at the ASROCK SATA2 dual cause it has a agp and pcie
i am running a 9800 pro atm and dont have the money to change it 2
it wouldn't be worth me gettting one of the x300s from work if i bought a pcie only board

Cheap price? Good overclocking? Go with the Asus A8R-MVP. Overclocks like mad. The only problem is that you can't run more than 1.45v...but if you get a strong chip, this won't be a problem. Let us know what you think.

If you are willing to pony up ~$120-$130, you can get a DFI NF4 Ultra-D. You'll have the best luck with one of those.

Actually, since I now own one, I've been doing alot of research on this board. First, it really depends on what CPU your using in regards to how far the Vcore setting will go. But, for the most part, it will go to 1.52v with the "over-voltage" enabled in the BIOS. There is a volt mod you can do for this mobo that will enable that to go higher. This involves soldering a 20k varible resistor on the SMD capacitor. So far, this has met with alot of success and has helped achieve over 1.6v. Here are the links to the mod. And yes, I'm considering it if I keep this board.

But, for the most part, this is a great board for the price, can hang with the best SLI boards and can get decent overclocks out of it..

im not sure if its that spacific board, but some of the boards that do both agp and pciX have troubles. like one of them the pciX slot operates at only 8x.......

Get the Asrock is pretty decent, make sure it supports Opteron's though as I believe that soom boards don't. You'll be able to easily take out all of my 9800 PRO's results with your Opty!

Wow, I didn't think of that. . I would make sure your board is properly cooled if you decide to do something like this, since it'll be working the voltage regulators a lot harder. At any rate, that's a nice find.
