| Apex Techie Wannabe | Hi. I have a MSI K7N2 L it has a mcp2 but it's not mcp2-T. In the manual it shows a way to connect speakers to the 3 back panel input jacks. One of them is a mic jack but it lets you configure that to work with par of the speaker set up. When i open the audio control i get a feature that lets me click two boxes to turn it on so the mic input becomes an output so that i can now use up to 6 speakers. I have Creative 5.1 speakers and want to get surround sound but the nVidia audio control panel that is shown in the manual cant be found. I also cant run the soundstorm program. It just tells me to re install (which i've done many times to no effect) if anyone can help me with this i'd be really grateful as nVidia dont have a tech support and i doubt ill get an answer from msi. Do i have to get a sound card instead? Or is there something i'm missing? Thanks. Knight. | |

| Try the newest audio drivers for your motherboard. I have verified these to be the correct drivers for your motherboard. Uninstall the old drivers and Install these new drivers dated 4/16/03 Post back on whether they fixed the issue or not, ![]() | ||

| Apex Techie Wannabe | Hi, i installed the new drivers but the is zero change in my problem. Actually on a related note. The mcp chip on my nforce2 board is supposed to work as a sound card but the realtek one is in fact the sound chip right? I read somewhere that most motherboards dont bother using the nvidia sound chip and just use the realtek one. The audio properties/control pannel i bring up says nvidia but i dont get the options/features listed in the manual. Also, when i set my speakers to 5.1 i dont get any sound on my back speakers. I run the audio clip in the nvidia folder thand i get a confirmation ''left front, center, right front, left back, right back'' but when i play music or games i get no sound on my back ones. Need asperin, head about to explode, Hulk smash puny computer. . . . . . . | |

| if you are using realtek, get a sound card and bypass all these problems, i think you can get an Audigy 2 on newegg.com for around $70-80 hell, even a SB Live! 5.1 would be very sufficient, im still using mine and it still sounds top notch, and no problems at all, and all my games use it like a champ... | ||

| Sorry my driver update suggestion did not work. Realtek's are good sound systems to fall back on when all else fails, mine works, but it uses upto 30% CPU while playing audio. Yes the realtek chip is the one that does the sound. Get a cheap SB Live! it will serve you well ![]() in fact right now you can get a Sound Blaster Live! 5.1 for $33@Newegg.com! ![]() | ||

| Apex Techie Wannabe | Ok thanks a lot guys. I'm not even sure if i'm using the realtek or the nvidia sound chip. Seems to me a bit of a con that they tout it then have it bypassed by another chip. 33 large isnt too bad for a sound card and i doubt i'd notice the improvement if i got the audigy so i'll go for the SB 5.1 . . . whats the actual full name. I'ts not the sound blaster live 1024 value is it??? just that i had that in my last pc. Does the sb 5.1 do dolby or Eax? Anyway thats this topic sorted thanks again. Look for my new one about why my pc keeps electrocuting me when i touch the inside (even with the power off and the off switch at the back set to off) Knight | |

| Dunno if this is still relevant but, anyways... Try downloading NV swap from the nvidia website... http://www.nvidia.com/content/drivers/drivers.asp It's at: Games, Utilities and tools --> NV Swap --> Win XP/2000/98 | ||

| I thought soundstorm and realtek were 2 different sound providers? Casue ive seen mobos with a chip that says realtek, but mine which is soundstorm dont say anything on the mobo. I dont know I might be out to lunch and yes I know soundstorm is just a proof of passing nvidias sound testing but my mobo has no program that says anything about realtek, but there is a nvidia soundstorm program. I think you have either the soundstorm or realtek chip onboard. Oh ya I had little problem with my sound when I hooked up my speakers I wasnt getting the back speakers to play either it was the orange and black inputs you have to put black plug into the orange hole and visa versa and it was fixed took 20 min and putwig to come over and sort me out lol Addendum: I just checked, your board dosent have soundstorm just realtek so theres no bypassing you just dont have it.
