Try to reinstall the OS, or maybe (rarely, almost never, infact I haven't seen this happen in years) your BIOS went corrupt and needs reflashing.

Who makes the bios? once you know that you can mod a Live CD of PC-DOS and flash from there. Also checkout www.notebookforums.com for any others with similar problems.

Have you even tried to re-install Windows yet? Re-Flashing the bios as a repair technique is a last resort, as I said, RARELY is that the problem, you likely have a HDD, controller, or OS problem, test those first.

What Peng said ... if "it has a good hd ive already tested it with another laptop " then it's likely a HD controller, or perhaps the connector the the HD (when you slide it into the tray) is ker-pluct (that's a technical term).

I had this problem on a laptop I had, and had it also happen on a work laptop. Turns out the hd died. I used the Gentoo install cd to SLOWLY retrieve as much info as possible before they died completely. I suggest you do the same and replace the drive.

if it doesnt detect the hard drive ... did you ever consider you might need a driver for the ide contoler? figure out what kind of chipset it is... get the driver for it.. and hit F6 when windows promts you to

You've tried booting off of that drive on another system? Check your MBR.

Peng Lord had a really good idea ... check your mbr....

goto www.bootdisk.com download a win 98 boot disk

start the computer and have it boot off the floppy

when you get to a command prompt type: fdisk /mbr

then try booting/ reinstalling

if this works... give the credit to peng lord.... i just put it in laymens terms

i think i found the problem could the hard drive be too fast? it is supposed to have a 4200 RPM drive could that be it. could this cause the hd light to stay on permanently?
