Default My CPU Squeals

It's true, it does. Perticularly when I am working with scalable vector graphics. The tone varys depending on what I am doing. For instance, scaling a circle with a gradient fill produces a higher tone than a square with the same fill. I know for sure my hard drives aren't making this noise and there's no fan on my CPU so it can't be that or the northbridge chipset (again, no fan).

If someone could pitch an idea about what this is and or what's causing this, that'd be great.

Thank You

(Yes, I Know, Very Odd)

One possibility...It's an overtemp alarm built into the mobo. The lack of fan on the CPU makes this a distinct possibility.
Another, your power supply.
Never witnessed this myself, but I read about something like this.........
Get a fan.

*Sigh Answering all my stupid questions... again. Thanks. You know, I've never thought it was the power supply. I should have a new one coming... SOON... I hope (I bought it 2 months ago still haven't seen it). I doubt it's a heat problem though (liquid cooled, should have mentioned that I guess).

Well, thanks for not calling me crazy

Turn your speakers up a lot then scroll down a webpage with lots of text/pictures - can you hear a distint squeal? If you can, it could be the EMI of the rig is interfeering with a nearby speaker or even the system speaker. Known PSUs to squeek as well, but not while doing particular tasks and certainly not changing tones. Try locating the source of the sound - is it really the CPU itself?

It could also be your monitor, I had an older monitor that always squealed during start-up for some reason.

Wow nev payne, you're smart! I turned up my speakers all the way - I think, darn push button design - and scrolled up and down the pimprig index page. The white noise coming from them turned to a more audiable crackle, but it's still not the noise I've been hearing. But it gave me an idea. I am going to check something and post back later.

And no, I am not crazy... Maybe YOU ARE

This is off topic, but you're infringing on my gimmick! >.<

Nice Nitz avatar. I was on the Undergrads bandwagon before you, though!

Yeah, ok, you got me. I did get the idea for the avatar from you. I've found some other funny stuff lately, tis giving me ideas... I am gunna have to PM you and figure out which one of us got hooked first. No contest, just, I don't know, I guess something funny.

Ok, back on topic, I really think it is / was my graphics card. I am not hearing it today - go figure - but it might have to do with heat 'n stuff. I've been doing a little work in my PC lately so the side panel is off, oh and the temperature inside my house isn't the usual 27 degrees Celsius. Blah! I am goning to keep my money on my graphics card though and maybe try to heat things up inside.

Ok, well thanks
(Great job too, nev_payne! Now I have something else to think about when I trying to get some hay time)

Well, we resolved it in PM that I own you as far as Undergrads go.

Man, you didn't have to change your signature! I was just ribbing you a bit, giving you a hard time. If you like the show, the characters, what have you, roll with it! Like I told you, it's all about liking the show and getting publicity for it! Rock on!

I was getting ready to say...the DVD has been out for a long ass time! I got mine off eBay. Check there for a used copy, but Amazon has it, too!

...and if you're just now realizing I'm a fan of Undergrads, that's sad.

Yeah, I am pretty sure it was / is. It's gotten a lot cooler lately (one time it was 29 in my house!) so... well... I guess that's a good thing. Great overclocking weather.

You know, that's exactly what I tell my family and friends. When my room gets too cold, I turn up my FSB speed a little and turn it down when it gets too hot. The conversayion ends with them laughing in my face and walking away. Is this why I don't have a girl friend? Well, I mean even if my face did cause cameras to explode.

Exactly, your 1 step closer to the fairer sex with this new knowledge. It's not bad to do these things, just don't talk about them until you have a girl friend. By that time she'll have decided to stay with your freaky a@@ regardless.
