MSI 865PE Neo-2P

i have a very bad prob.. i have a MSI 865PE Neo-2P and i use the onbored audio but when i installed the audio drivers no sound came out and i went to control panel and my sound settings were all grey and i can move them, but it says i have installed the drivers... do i need codecs?

you dont need any codec to get basic sound to come out. ive got the same board. whered you install the drivers from? and if you open device manager, what if anything shows in "Other Devices"

msi onboard sound sucks.... they have a tendancy of just dieing ( thank god msi has a good rma department)

i used to live in the msi fourms.... but i found my new home here...

And what "MSI onboard sound are you talking about" Because you do realize that they dont make the chip, its essentially a sound card built onboard....

I have the same board and I use to have a sound blaster 515 PIC card that wont work with this new board(every time I use anything with sound it locks the computer up.) So I used the on board sound and it seems to work fine..I hope it works until I can buy a new sound card.

well, i guess ur right about the sound dieing.. i mean it was crackling really bad and then it just didnt work.. but i have a SB live! and it works fine, i just had to make sure that i went in the bio's and turned AC'97 audio to off and not auto.

I have that same board and I have to say that the on-board audio sucks heaping amounts of goat ass. There were so many driver incompatibites with the games I ran and the quality of the sound when it did work sounded crappy.

God, I miss that old SoundStorm from my old Nforce2 board. Now that was excellent on-board sound. Why Nvidia killed it, I'll never understand.
