Default not a standard case from Gateway...

Help okay this is my problemÂ… I have a gateway820gm computer.. Thinking that I love the way the case looks I decided to go on to Ebay and buy the same exact case and put my own motherboard and Cpu.. etc..etc.. insideÂ…

Well when I got the case.. and I donÂ’t know why I didnÂ’t notice it before. This Case has the opening for the motherboard on the right side of the case. Which mean I can only put the same gateway style motherboard .. < intel (south lake) p4 550 800mhz motherboard>

P/n 4000958.. I tired calling gateway support to see if I could just buy another mobo. I was directed to another site where they donÂ’t even sell the mobo as of yet.

My question to you is..

A) is there anyone out there that can help me get this motherboard?

B) Is there a way to take the whole backside off the case and replace it with another?

C) Or should I just scrap this case.. and just buy another?

Please let me knowÂ…

I don't see a problem with using a standard motherboard from that picture. Only problem would be if the mountings were different, and even if they were, you could just drill and tap new holes. The case looks fairly short, and might only fit smaller mATX motherboards. Check the dimensions against any montherboard you buy.

Don't just scrap it, mod it. Remember, with enough time, patience, and know-how (or learning, as is often the case for me) you can make it work.

If you used a standard motherboard wouldnt the PCI/AGP slots be at the top in that configuration - then the mobo wouldnt fit because your power supply would be in the place where the PCI cards need to be - instead of at the bottom.......

Ok, it's not the EXACT same mobo as what Gateway is using, but it should do the job. The only difference that I can see is that this mobo has 2 less USB ports than the Gateway one.

Hope it helps.

I woke up in the middle of the night.. after posting and realized that it was a BTX style case.. So I thank you all for pointing me in the right direction. Is there any knowledge of when the full size motherboard will start being produced.. OR is this the main draw towards this style that the mobo is so small

right now they are on the small size.... but that will change.... if you are looking at some of the cooling benifts of a btx case look at the lianli cases.... the v1200 and 2100 series mount the mb upside down so the processor is near the botom .... overall a good case

Already have the case.. just looking to fill it.
I guess what will do is go to plan D... (I am making this up as I go along..) try and buy a mobo that I have found or plan E.1.. shelf the whole idea.. until the larger mobo come out later this year.. Which in turned E.2 is start on the next one I have been planning all along..

Tell me what you would do...
