| Apex Techie Wannabe | I have a p4 2.6 and a 865perl mobo...but i just ordered my athlon 64 3700+ and asus board,i was wondering do i have to reformat? to insatll the new bios or i can just put in the disc and install from my disc,because i really don't want to rformat if i dont have to,plz let me know,im a noob when it comes to computers ![]() | |

| You don't install a BIOS. Plug all your new components in, put the XP CD in the drive and set the BIOS so it boots from the CD drive first. Follow the instructions and you'll eventually be asked if you want to reformat. Again follow the instructions, and then everything's done. If this is too vague use this guide: http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/cleanxpinstall.html If needed you could flash the BIOS not "install" it. Look in your mobo manufacturer's website for instructions. | ||

| you want to set up all your settings in the bios before you install windows.... some options if you change them after windows has been installed will cause windows to become unstable or even not boot here is a webpage that tells you what each of the options in the bios does http://www.rojakpot.com/default.aspx?location=9 also if you have to format.... make two partitions ... one for windows ... 8 to 15 gb and the rest for saving crap so if you need to reinstall windows ... you dont lose yer info... just the programs you installed WELCOME to PiMPIRiG!!! | ||
