Yes you have to reformat..Welcome to PR.

To flash your bois, download the new bios on to a floppy using another comp, go into the bios on your new comp, and use the bios update utlity that comes with it.

You technically don't need to reformat. If you connect your hard drive to the rest of our hardware, the computer should load, but driver conflicts will screw you over. So you don't need too reformat, but it is recommended if you don't want crappy performance.

You don't install a BIOS.

Plug all your new components in, put the XP CD in the drive and set the BIOS so it boots from the CD drive first. Follow the instructions and you'll eventually be asked if you want to reformat. Again follow the instructions, and then everything's done.

If this is too vague use this guide:

If needed you could flash the BIOS not "install" it. Look in your mobo manufacturer's website for instructions.

you want to set up all your settings in the bios before you install windows.... some options if you change them after windows has been installed will cause windows to become unstable or even not boot

here is a webpage that tells you what each of the options in the bios does http://www.rojakpot.com/default.aspx?location=9

also if you have to format.... make two partitions ... one for windows ... 8 to 15 gb and the rest for saving crap so if you need to reinstall windows ... you dont lose yer info... just the programs you installed
