There should be two clips on each side of the processor that you have to pull in order to get it out. Here is a step-by-step in .pdf

No problem. Its kinda tricky...you have to have three hands on some boards. My on my Abit BE6-2, I have to pull both clips at the same time and then pull the processor out.

Depends on the board you have - some have heatsink supports you need to unscrew/unclip. Anything attached to the heatsink other than the P2?

In that case, there should be 4 brass colored screws for a philips cross-head screwdriver? I you take these out the whole unit should be removable with ease - the slot connector would be the only thing holding it in place. Can you get a picture at all?

thats the mobo just without the socket , but the same slot thing, theres no screws ?, the processer just slips right in.. doesnt seem to have anything holding it there, those clips just seem to hold hte heatsink if it was a heavier one

Like Kemosabe said... there are two plastic "sliding" clips on each side of the cpu. You pull them either up, or down, and it unlocks the processor socket, then the cpu will pull right out.

You shouldn't have to unscrew anything.....

Turbo - as the CPU is jammed, I thought it would be best to remove the entire unit with the support bracket.

As your support bracket is effectively stuck to the board, I have to assume theres a heatsink problem. Heres my piccy:

The motherboard im working on as a secondary bracket to work with - the heatsink is clippied into this area. I think whats happened is the heatsink and processor blocks have jammed on one of the bracket edges - is there anything noticable about the way the cpu is sitting at the mo?

I too have had to go that route...i had a dell(I know...shoot me) that did exactly that. Like Nev said, It depends on the motherboard.
