Default Does a 939 MB takes a 754 Cpu?

I dunno where or how I got lost, but i'm lost. I have a A64 2800+ newcastle 800fsb socket 754 cpu. I'm trying to put it in either a GA-K8NXP or Asus A8N Deluxe. Both are SLI and socket 939. Now, back when I purchased one of the boards, I wrote in the search function Socket 754 and i'm almost positive I got both those boards back in the search. Before I break anything, is it safe?

Neither of those boards will work with that processor. There is, however, a motherboard that will work with both...

Yeah, that's what I thought, too...

It is... the ASRock K8 Upgrade 760GX Motherboard... You can start with a 939 cpu and then downgrade to 754, or go from a 754 to a 939 later on...

From the review on PCPer forums:

Quote:
In order to get the upgrade functionality, you need to buy a seperate Socket 939 adapter card that plugs into a special slot on the board. Because of this, the board only has 2 PCI slots instead of the typical 3 found on most mATX boards. However the flexibility of sockets may outweigh the need for a 3rd PCI slot.

The board uses the SiS 760GX chipset which means you get the decent integrated Mirage 2 graphics, two SATA connections with RAID 0, 1 and JBOD, two ATA133 channels, 5.1 audio, and USB 2.0. It's all pretty standard technology and probably won't appeal to those who want the latest and greatest stuff like PCI Express.

All the 754's that I've seen only have AGP....no SLI

There are a few PCI-e boards for socket 754, I know ASUS makes a pretty decent one..

Otherwise the DFI lanparty NF3 is the way to go.. even thought it only has AGP..

Edit: Here is the DFI(AGP only..but awesome performance), and here is the ASUS motherboard.

Wow.. I thought NF4 was only for socket 939..

thanks for the help grandpa. via chipset is my only setback on that board. $146 for the 3000 939 cpu on newegg, not too too bad if I can sell the 754.

My first month here at PR.. i asked for advice on buying a mobo. http://forums.pcapex.com/showthread.php?t=35287

I just went ahead with the 754 chip when I bought it back then. Didn't think down the road when I swapped mobos it was gonna bite me in the culo. That epox got killed by my daughter and cup of juicy juice. So it was time to swap and upgrade, so I got the 939 mobo. hence this thread.
