| Apex Techie Wannabe | Ok, I just rebuilt my comp so I could sleeve all of the wires, when I put it back together the power won't come on. The ethernet port in the back lights up though. I tried replacing the PSU and nothing, so i figure it might be the power switch, I replace that, still notta. My specs are: Biostar U8668 Mobo 480 Watt AG PSU 2.4 Ghz Celeron D 768 mb Ram Gigibyte Nvidia MX 4000 Video Card Sunbeam Samurai Case (If that helps) Please send me some ideas of what might be wrong. | |

| Well, the first step to troubleshooting is to consider the obvious. You need to check all your connections and make sure they're all firmly connected. When you sleeved, are you sure you didn't clip a wire somewhere? I mean hey, it could've happened. I would next move onto the PSU, but you've already checked that, so moving on. Obviously you're not getting a signal from your power button to your PSU and motherboard to tell the computer to turn on. My other suggestion would be replacing the power button, but you've tried that, too. You need to run over your wiring with a fine-tooth comb. Make sure you didn't unplug the CPU fan wire, since some motherboard won't come on without it, make sure that every wire is connected to its proper place. Are you getting any fans spinning or anything, even for a second? When I fried my Epox 8RDA+ (blew a transistor or resistor), when hitting the power button the fans would spin about 1/4 of a rotation, and then that'd be it. So, your motherboard may be fried. It's hard for me to troubleshoot this for you, since it's not in front of me. ![]() | ||

Sadly, I'd say you are right. Probably the victim of some sort of static shock to your motherboard during the process. The wristband that grounds you is not a bad idea; where tennis shoes or a general shoe with a rubber sole, and try your best not to work on carpet! I had to learn the hard way in my state of noobness. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||

| some motherboards go "dead" (msi for example) if there is a power issue or if it was overclocked wrong .. i would try 2 things boot the mb outside of the case ( to make sure there are no grounds) pop the bios battery for a couple of mins... and check the manual to see if there are any other jumpers that neeed to be reset | ||
