Default Quick CPU question

Is the performance of a proc with 1mb of cache really that much more noticable than one with 512kb? I'm eyeing the x2 proc and the price of the 4200 is a hellova lot more in my budget than the 4400. So is the 4400+ gonna be worth that big of a price jump?

I'm going to say yes its worth it, your buying the amd 64 x2 4400, it may cost more but with 2 proc's the more the cache the better.

Actually, the more cache the better. But for the price of that chip, I'd consider the 64 3700+ with 1mb cache. This a fast azz chip without the high price.

Well I'm pretty set on getting dual core. I do alot of things at once, normally while gaming. Plus, I try to get a minimum of 2 years out of each upgrade. I just wanted to know if cache made that big of a difference. I probably dont NEED dual core, but how often do we need half of what we get for our pcs It would be nice if we got a nice price drop since this build wont happen for a month or two.

I did a test a while back and found that processor speed actually outweighs cache benefits. A 200MHz difference negated 512Mb of cache.

However, if I were buying right now it would be a X2 processor. The dually is kicking ass all over the place.

I know, and considering I plan on the nvidia 7800 too spendin that much is gonna sting, However, I've been puttin some flow back for a few months now just for this, and my system is selling for 550. So knock on wood i'll have plenty of money to work with. *famous last words eh? heh* If i can sell my radeon 9800 I'd be even happier heh

Simple rule of thumb for gamers:

Buy the best vid card you can afford, then spend whatever is left on the CPU...that's what Overclocking is for!

Yeah your right, the way things are rolling right now I may have to settle for a cheaper CPU. My hours got drasticly cut, (by 20hours) So I'm eyein something cheaper around 3700+ or something along those lines. Then make the jump to the x2 later on. But hey, it'll still be a NICE jump from my p4 2.6c
