Default starting pc biuld need sugg's

i am looking into which mobo/cpu combo i would like to get. im hung up between these 2:
1. mobo- ASUS P5ND2-SLI Deluxe cpu-3.6 GHz-560 - Socket LGA775has 800mhz fsb
2. mobo-ASUS A8N-SLI Deluxe cpu-AMD FX-55

this system will be used for gaming, and 3D-CAD rendering. i will also be editing movies. i will be running 2 6800gt graphics cards.

which combo is a better performer?

thanks, trey

In my opinion for what you are saying you will be using the system for I would opt for the intel system. The hyper threading is nice when you do a lot of intensive stuff. I won't encode movies on my amd64 machine at all. I always use my intel machine for encoding and such.

its a trade-off though bro.... i gotta use the rig mainly for graphics design.... but gaming, and movie editing come second.... personally ive always been an intel fan, but ive been looking at numbers, and man those amd64's are wicked. the main thing ima need is to be able to run 2 progs. or even three at a time. like acad2000, microstation, and whatever else i need. whichever machine is best at that.... thats what i need

Well the intel will be better at running more than one program at a time. Unless you go for a dual core amd. I don't know if you can buy them yet but the dual core amd would be a good choice.

How much are you willig to spend exactly. If you are willing to spend over a grand on a cpu there is always the Intel Dual core 3.2 Extreme Edition. Both of the cores have hyperthreading from what I heard.

Even at multitasking the FX-55 will dominate. It's just that much of a beast of a CPU. It will smack the Intel around all day long. I think you will be much happier with it. Also you might look into getting a DFI SLi motherboard. It's a lot better then Asus. Good luck!!!

EDIT:

Also you can't run two monitors with SLi just to let you know. Also some CAD programs have issues with SLi. My buddy can't get catia or mastercam to run with SLi after he tried creating his own profiles. So you might want to check up on this and email the manufacteurs.

dont really wanna spend that much on cpu.

ive seen both of the above cpu's going for 300-500 on ebay. besides if i want to go with dual core i would prob go with amd. the cores of the amd connect through the cpu itself, while the intel uses the mobo to transfer data between the 2 cores

preciate the info though
