Default This might be my motherboard but im not sure....

Hello all, anyways today i just got in my new asus k8n-e deluxe mobo with my amd athlon 64 3400+ and another gig of corsair ram for my rig, anyways i formatted my comp prior to installing the new hardware so i get a fresh start, i finish installing the hardware and im gettin a problem with nothing displaying on my monitor. So i tried reseating my vid card, which is a radeon 9800+ pro 256m, and still the same problem, so i made sure the power cable to the card is connected and working and the fan runs on the vid card but no display, so i try putting in my old vid card which is a radeon 9500+ pro 128m, and still the same problem, no display but the fan on the card is running fine, im beginning to think it maybe a defective mobo but everything else is working fine, everything starts up but i got no display =(

Try unplugging your hardware 1 piece at a time. This included the USB, Audio, Firewire connectors an such. Check all your 12v connectors. Make sure the CPU fan is plugged into the correct header. If it still doesn't work check the mobo standoff's are all in the right spots and not grounding out your mobo.

uh oh, maybe u didnt use standoffs. and the Mobo is directly on the case. ouch! the standoffs keep the motherboard raised of the case so that like slaymate said, its not being grounded.

did you screw in the standoffs before installing your motherboard?

Default unhooking devices

what slaymate is meening, unhook your roms your hard drive , go to the essentials mobo , memory and vid card see if it post , meening counts ram and post on the screen , if that fails try another vidcard , perhaps you have a spare stick of ram to put in , if that fails >>Mike

well the standoffs were fine, i know what you guys are talking about but i unplugged everything except the ram, cpu, and vid card and i got nothing

so i started switching between the 3 sticks of ram(1gig, and two 512s) and i noticed when i took out the gig, the bios loaded saying that the bios config is wrong and nothing is connected so i plugged back in everything one by one and everything runs fine, currently i am formatting and freshly installin a new windows, i will try to put back in the new 1gig stick i just bought and see if its really defective or if it works, so far you guys have been a big help and ill keep ya posted on what happens

Cheers!

well i tried swaping out my ram sticks again and i found something wierd. my new mother board is sapposed to sapport 3 gb of ram and well, i tried just the single one gig stick in and nothing else and it works, so now i know my new ram isnt defective but, the second i add one of my 512 sticks, the system doesnt load(the problems i was having before) it seems that any time i try to go over one gig my systems doesnt load, anyway i can turn off something to allow the maximum ram allowed? ill only be hitting 2 gigs with all my sticks in and my mobo is sapposed to support 3....

anyone got anything please send it this way

Check out the below

Did a google and the jist of it would seem that like some other boards (mine) your mobo cannot support over a gig at the highest speed. I expect you are probably running at 400Mhz and if so then you will need to decrease this to make the memory work. This is only my guess as I am an intel boy and haven't had an AMD since the original Athlon 1Ghz

I suggest a thorough read of your mobo manual. 3Gb probably at PC2700 or similar

Default Ram

what human says , could def, be the problem, but another thing that might be the culprit is that the sticks are not the same as far as speeds, ,like a 3200 stick , and your adding say Pc 2700. Might be that the stick with the fastes speed isnt backward compatible. meening it wont drop down speed to match the lower speed stick that you are adding. .MIke
