| Apex Tech God | Im kidding, I know not to use bailing wire but I do need help "engineering" something. I had someone give me an ASUS mobo, 1.5 GHz p4 socket 423 mobo, 128 MB RAMBUS memory, case and power supply. Basically a complete computer minus hard drive and opticals. The problem is the clips busted off the motherboard so there is no way to mount the heatsink. I asked if anyone had a socket 423 mobo and came up blank. I have done the math and after harddrive and buying new mobo I will only be able to make about $50 on this PC - its not worth my time as a money making effort. I want to rig this PC up and give it to my mother - shes still using an AMD 333 MHz on Win 98. Its painful but it does what she wants so she want get a new one. She wont have much choice if I give it to her. What I need is help in rigging that heatsink. I dont think zipties will work - has anyone used thermal adhesive in that situation. If need be I can lay the PC on its side to keep it from breaking loose but I would prefer to make it "normal" from all outside appearances. They way I understand it if you have a bolt-on cooling solution for a socket 423 you simply take the mounts of the mobo and use the existing holes. Anybody have a socket 423 bolt-on cooler or any ideas on how to rig this old machine up to give it some life??? Also if anyone has any hard drives that work Im looking. Doesnt need to be big - 3 gb for XP so Im thinking 8 or 10 gb would be fine. I should have been saving more junk but at some point I had to start thinning stuff out, I picked a bad time I guess. |

| Supe-Hoe-Charged | I say use thermal epoxy, but I don't know if the pins would handle all that weight alone for very long... If only a socket 478 mount would work.. I know where to find those.. Hey didn't you have this problem a long time ago with a dell socket 478?

| Apex Tech God | Yeah - I ordered a new mount for it. I have found a place that sells mounts for this board but the heatsink I have now wouldnt work then.....I just cant seem to get there from here without spending like $100 bucks on this damn thing. I really dont want to do that. |
