| have any of you received this BSOD from WinXP before? I jsut started to get it a few days ago. Now everytime I boot up I get that BSOD within 5 min or less. Safe mode doesn't help either. MS knowledge base says it is due to checks performed by Pentium processors and is a result of unstable overclocking or a hardware problem in teh system bus, ram, or cache on the cpu itself. After ALOT of trial and error I think I have narrowed it down the cache on the cpu. If I disable the L1 and L2 cache in the bios then i don;t get anymore BSODs... it just takes about 30 min to boot into windows... looks like I may have pushed the cpu too hard and damaged the cache on it. If anyone knows a good way to verify this or any possible fix, I would appreciate it. As of right now my main pc is unusable. Luckily I have another CPU coming in. | ||

| GK, Yeah, I've gotten the BSOD in XP... but I didn't keep getting it like you are. As for the processor, that would be harsh... unfortunatly, the best way I know to test it is to just drop another processor in and check it out... but if your motherboard is doin' funky stuff, it might damage the new proc... Good luck with it dude! | ||

| Apex Techie Wannabe | I was very sad to find out that my NEW pentium 4 2.4 GHZ and all that stuff came with that error from factory, but i fixed the problem, i dont know if there is a fix for CPU failures or power unstability, but for heat i changed the jumpers to increase fan speed, well that didnt fixed the problem, then i tried disabling processor cache, that fixed the problem but it was too Slow... so o opted to keep investigating. The RAM i have is 2 DDR 1 of 140 MB i think and the other of 256. im not sure. I am a programmer, and i finally ended taking this computer for testing purposes only (Validating warranty is a pain in the neck), but one day i made a program and BY CHANCE i noticed that the PC didnt showed that blue screen anymore. i thought it was fixed, but no. Next time i turned it on it caused same problem, i ran again same program and again the pc was working fine. So i found out that increasing page file size fixes the problem when the problem is in the DDR memories. Cya! Last edited by EmmyGuy; 17-March-05 at 01:22 AM.. | |
