| losernoOb | Boy do I feel dumb; removing my HSF today ( to put some AS3 instead of the silicone snot) I gently pulled on my heatsink for 5 minutes and it came out, and took my 1.8A clean out of the socket, and ripping about 8 pins out that I counted.... After stomping on my 1.8A and throwing my HSF accross the neighborhood, I am now in the market for a cpu, what do you guys think I should get, budget is $175....0r $250 if dis pending deal im doin goes thru. ty in advance guys Last edited by n00bishLaggeR; 29-January-03 at 05:00 AM.. | |

| Far as I can tell you can pick up a 2.0A for around $160 or possibly cheaper. Guess it depends on if you're planning to overclock. Or perhaps a 2.4B (northwoods, 533FSB) at around $190. At 2.53, the price seems to jump to a good $230, and 2.6 seems to start above $300, so it's entirely up to you how much you want to spend on just a chip. kitlarak, I do believe his motherboard only support intel socket 478 chips...as opposed to anything AMD produces. And at the cost of a 2400, the cost of a new motherboard would be adding quite a bit more. | ||

| Well, from some of the boneheaded things that I have done in the past, I can't say that I wouldn't have hosed it the same way. But after hearing about it, I guess that if anyone was in that situation, where the heatsink was uncliped and still stuck on, then they should release the ZIFF Socket and remove the heatsink and chip together, then work the chip off. Hindsight is a wonderfull thing isn't it ? It allows you to feel like your getting smarter and learning about old mistakes so you can move on in life, and screw up bigger things ![]() | ||

| I would say at least is a fair estimate NoSlack. Mine is on an ABit AT7-e Max mobo, Via KT333 chipset and is running at 2.28 Gig, if I drop it from 175mhz FSB down to 173mhz, Wcpuid actually reports it as an XP2800+ chip. They are in stock at Newegg.com and selling for $95.00 with Free Fedex Saver shipping. That's how the sent mine and I ordered it on Thursday just before MLK holiday weekend and it arrived Tuesday. Can't beat it guys. Newegg also has a special on the ASUS A7N8X NForce2 mobo for $113 , same free shipping, so you can get the Board and the chip for about $208. That's pretty good shopping guys. | ||

| "Hrm... Maverick you have a point... And Cyphre I apologize, I really wasn't sure if it was an AMD or intel board... But after look at this I have question... Where the heck do you guys go!?!... Your finding super cheap dang fast chips... for a somewhat affordable price. And somehow I am doubting NewEgg... I am not saying it couldn't be just... that would be surprising considering most of their prices to date have not impressed me. But if any of you wouldn't mind referring please do?" Kit | ||

| well you know if the chi was still under warrenty you could have goten a replacement for free before you stomped on it. Intel has been pretty good about replacing parts for me. I had a cpu that was drp[[ed and some pins fell off and they replaced it no questions asked. But ohh well too late. You stomped on it and now there is not any way they will take it back. lol. Yeah googlegear has great prices and great service. Check them out. | ||

| I've had a HSF stick to the proc. before... It was a friend's PII system I was installing an upgrade on. The problem was the thermal pad they used on the stock HSF. I turned the machine on and let it run for about 30 min., opened the case, and it popped right off leaving the CPU alone. Sorry 'bout the bad luck n00bish..... I know how it feels.... AOpen huh? I'll be happy with them again once they ship me back a working system. EDIT: Which will apparantly be the middle of next week.... 4 months to just get te stock stuff werkin'..... UGH!!!!!!!!!!! | ||
