| | HDs Not Detected, Help a brother... Oh how glorious was the moment when I saw the UPS man drive up in his big 'ol brown truck, stepping out with a big 'ol brown box with my name printed on it. I finally got my Asus A8N SLI-Deluxe motherboard. My cares started to flutter away, the memories of last nights wreck leave me, and the horrible image of my busted car gone. I set to work right away, putting each component in its place, testing the watercooling system for leaks, and this and that and this and that. Finally it was time to plug all the power connectors in. I was plugging and singing and ready to hit that gosh darn power button that had been staring me in the face since I began. Thoughts of getting 15,000 marks in 03 and around 5000 in 05 filled my head, playing HL2 and DOOM3 until my fingers bled! OH JOY, OH RAPSURE, OH F*CK. Well, you see, I never cut off my PSU switch when I was pluggin' in those power connectors from when I tested my WC. I didn't notice until I plugged the last thing in: the ATX 24pin mobo cable. The system came on for half a second and shut off, which freaked me out. Anyway, I didn't think too much of it, and booted up. Things were going good, CPU temp at 27C, mobo around 30C (understandable for this board), CPU speed looked good, memory voltage a timings: check. Optical drives were recognized, etc. etc. Finally I take a look at the primary IDE Master and Slave, and I see none (as opposed to the expected WD1200). Anyway, I tried a gazillion things and nothing helped. The last thing I did got my mobo not to recognize my optical drives. I think if I boot up again it will, but I'm going to keep my hands off of it for a while. Oh, and also, whenever I boot with a hard drive connected it hangs and startup, it doesn't when there isn't. Oh, and ALSO when I boot without a keyboard attached, it doesn't give me an error message....hmmm. Anyway, I hope someone might know a solution to my problem. My guess is that I damaged the IDE slot when I plugged in that hot wire. Help! Edit: OH and ALSO whenever I hooked up an old hard drive (it's a good 'un), the computer didn't even start up. It came on again for half a second and shut off, like it did when I plugged in that mobo power supply cable.
EDIT: I apologize, I think the text messed up when I pasted it in from word. Sorry .
