Problem with Secondary Ide Channel

I have a asus p4s800d-e deluxe mobo.

I bought a new hardrive today which is ide for a slave drive and my master system drive is sata. I was having problems with it and had to switch the channels around because eaither the drive was not being detected or the dvd writer wasnt being detected. I then relized that which ever device wasnt detected was plugged into the SEC_IDE1 slot. So there must be something wrong with that channel. I dont know if you can disable or confure it. Anyones help would be great.

make sure that you have all the drivers installed and updated! and check to see if you get the same error in another persons computer

Check the wires and if u bent any pins on the board

hope its not bent

Look thru the BIOS - I cant help with that particular board but usually mobos with SATA have a bunch of IDE/SATA options in the BIOS. Also you didnt mention what OS you are running - I believe Windows 98 has a limitation where you cant use both IDE channels and SATA - or atleast that what my mobo maker wants me to believe.
