I can just see some of the Pimps here starting to cringe as soon as they seen my avatar/sig in a thread about someone wanting an opinion on a Sony VAIO...

First off, AMD-Playa...you might as well start saving your money to ditch that piece of junk. I used to be a HUGE Fony fan. Had the 31" multi-system TV, DVD home theater system, multi-system VCR, VAIO desktop, Sony monitor, Sony digital camera, Sony digital 8mm, Sony mini-disc player...the list goes on.

Then, I had to have some help when my VAIO bit the dust because Fony likes to pack it with a PSU that is just enough to power what you've got in there. I had added another hard drive, a video and sound card, additional RAM, and a couple of USBs. Know what happened? Fried both of my hard drives in the blink of an eye. Tech support sucked and wanted to blame Creative Labs. I could give you the links but hey, it's dead and over with. I don't want to relive that experience.

Secondly, if you are insistent about getting some more RAM, you'll have to find out what kind of RAM you have in it first. What model number is it? I can tell you right now that Fony likes to use Samsung RAM. Just let us know what model number the desktop is and I'll get back to on what kind of RAM to put in it.

Finally...save your money and build your own, dude. It is truly a liberating experience that will boost your ego and your rep here at these forums.

Man, I hate Fony with a passion. I'll never buy another one of their products again for as long as I live.

I would recommend Battering Ram for it. It's real solid.

Nice one BA, you beat me to it.
Supposing the guy can't afford to upgrade though, it is more than likely either PC100 or PC133 RAM, leaning towards PC100 SDRAM

It is most definately SDRAM, but which kind I am not certain.
How about taking out one of the existing RAM sticks and checking against the information here:

That should let you know what you need..

Which is why I asked what model number the Sony VAIO was. Once I have that, I can tell you exactly what kind of RAM your friend is going to need.
