| Senor Cisner-Hoes | well it is great that amd is whippin out a 64 bit processer for the average joe, but how does that have anything to do w/ intel? sure it'll put up competion but intel is already workin on a cpu w/ an 800 mhz bus. not only that but as reported in the article,
haha boy did they get that wrong! pentium 4 is already running that fast and it probably wont be too long b4 the pentium 4 speed is upped again. also it mentioned that the clawhammer will debut w/ a rating of oer 3000+. ok... i personally think that the fastest pentium 4 when hammer is released will whup it.. of course what i just wrote is based not on a working copy of clawhammer so any number of things might be wrong w/ it. well no matter which is faster, amd has a tendency to give u more bang for ur buck and that is a big factor when buying a cpu. hopefully AMD will continue that tradition brandon | ||||||||||||||||||||

| Senor Cisner-Hoes | well i was just trying to provoke discussion and to make some points b4 poeple jump to the conclusion that it'll whup intel. AMD chips are great stuff. i do not think anybody can deny that they work great for budget machines and some high end but let's face it, unless u r doin hardcore animation, video editing or things like that, intel has higher performance. brandon | |

| Actually, the performance of Intel is less than that of AMD. The shorter pipeline in the AMD chips shows much greater performance. The long pipeline in Intel chips allow them to clock them higher, but everything being relative, the performance is way under what AMD achieves. Understand that there is a difference between performance and benchmarks. Benchmarks are tailored to run optimally on one or another CPU, performance is actual speed of instruction execution. Intel is not anywhere near AMD's speed of instruction execution. The only reason that Intel is able to beat AMD in benchmarks is the the long pipeline allows fast but sloppy execution of instructions. Take two of the chips, clocked at the same speed, and tell me which one is superior. There would be no comparison. | ||

| I don't know anything about or use hardcore animation & video editing or things like that like you said , so i'll have to trust you on this. I use my system for the internet & computers games only & that's it , well beside typing & print out a letter or document. | ||

| I am not an AMD lover, but I am very appreciative of what they accomplished in the last few years. Intel continues to crank up the speed, but AMD continues to become more efficient. Raw power VS finesse. Who will win? I don't really care, but it sure plays out well for all of us users. | ||

| Mhz for Mhz, AMD has been kicking Intel's butt for a while now. As far as Intel dieing, I don't think so. Nor would I want that. Where would we be without the competition. I like AMD and have had nothing but since I built my first machine (486 dx 100) but I would own an Intel. As for the Hammer it's the next step in the progression of the home pc. Eventually Intel will follow suit and come out with something new themselves. Thats the up side. On the down side the price gap between AMD and Intel has been slowly closing and I understand this will make the gap even smaller due to increased production costs to build the hammer. | ||

| Senor Cisner-Hoes | hmmm in not sure where u heard that. maybe u could give us a source or sumthin. i highly doubt that the CLAWhammer would be that expensive... mabye, and i mean maybe, on a longshot the sledge hammer could be closer to those prices, but it just does not make any sense for a company to sell a chip for that. however, BA, when u take the fastest P4 setup and the fastest Athalon setup, the p4 overall wins in many fields, but gets bum raped in adobe premier and programs like that. however if u want the most performance for ur dollar, AMD is the way to go. there is no question. pentium 4's are expensive but also is the family of chip that currently has the "fastest" (highest benchmarks in the fastest setup possible) setup available. unless u guys can provide some solid benchmarks that totally whup p4 in more than half of the fields tested, ( i don care if the benchmarks are actual or synthetic) im sticking by what i said that to get the fastest possible setup, you gotta have a pentium 4 if u get me the proof w/ the 2800+ vs teh 3.06 GHz, i'll preach the work of AMD brandon | |
