Default Motherboard Problems

Okay, I'm pretty sure I've zero'ed in on the problem.

First some specs:
Gigabyte 8IDML
P4 1.6 Northwood
512x2 PC133
ATi Radeon 9600se
Seagate 40/80gb
WinXP Pro

Okay, so I was hooking up the front USB headers (according to the Manual) and I hook the power and other stuff up and then I went on to boot up. So I POST, but during the time I normally see the WinXP logo, I get the

Boot in:

Safe Mode
Safe Mode w/ etc.

Last Known Good Config ... so on, I'm pretty sure you guys know what I mean.

So I choose last known good config and it just reboots. I get a nice long loop with this.
Edit: When I choose the other selections, I get the same loop.

Also, the comp. was working pre-usb headers.

Thanks for help in advance.

First things first - Does it boot up properly if you pull out the headers you just connected?
Also - Did you only add the headers or did you make a major change?

I know it's obvious, but double check all the cable seatings - I've had this happen to me when an IDE cable wasn't seated properly.

All the cables have been checked already ... I think its software and other stuff. So I might just reformat.

Adios doggies!

You could also try a repair install.

Keeps all your data but re-installs xp - Just boot from the CD, hit install (don't press R) and do a repair install.

Good luck

<----- Dunce

I left one of the dimm modules unseated. Needless to say, I already formatted before I figured that out ...

Oh well, clean slate yet again
