Holy IRQ's Batman, this would have made things easier back in the day.

back in the day (before PnP), you were lucky to have one third the devices, be in a GUI OS to be able to query/check/adjust or do anything to them, and if you knew what you were doing, you never needed anything like that, the need for something like that didnt surface until devices started having sub-devices built into them (such as enumerators and controllers) and the responsibility of mantaining all of them became too much for an average tech to handle...

for example, im sure your rig is pretty new and swag and whatnot...well heres the system info for mine, which is NOT new...or swag, but still chock full of devices...notice the lack of IRQs for the lack of integrated devices...

thats when i started with comps, aka (sound cards and modem combinations and all that crap) for some reason i was always short one IRQ
