Re-Install Windows, you can't transplant hard-drives from one computer to another without a reinstall.

Yes.

For the most part, you can avoid a reinstall if you change your ram, video card, processor, etc... sometimes even the hard-drive itself (using hard-drive copy boot-disk). However, its rare that you can change the motherboard without a reinstall.

once again, yup. because when you first installed it. your board has a different chipset and thus create massive problems.

What these guys said is right on... changing boards is usually a major platform change and alot of stuff needs to be reloaded. If you don't want to reinstall you can also use this trick to keep your current install and force XP to reinstall all hardware from scratch: http://forums.pcapex.com/showthread.php?t=3892

There are ways around not having to do a full install but you will be FAR better off if you do. Just bite the bullet, it only takes a few hours and XP will really fly when your done. Fresh installs are like fresh underwear, always makes me smile.

Ya pretty hard changing boards and not reinstalling windows unless you are using the same chipset and basically all the same components.

Not true... that link I gave will allow youto switch from an AMD to Intel platform even with a reinstall. I have used it at least three times and it worked great each time.

I've used the technique in that link and it works fine for me. Matter of fact, I have it as one of my favorites. As much mobo swapping and GK and I do, we should know.

I swear I suggested this in a thread not long ago... no worries... the thread suggested is the best way to do things is thats the way you wanna go...your gonna need to get your old system back together to change regestry tho....

Re-install if its the repair install that will work shouldnt affect your documents. A good clean install shouldnt hurt tho, so long as your all backed up.
