| hey guys, i got HL2 and having some problems with my rig.... so i installed it and everything and it run it, and i lags some.....every once in a while it will lag for like 3-4 seconds that doesnt sound like a lot but when your in game play its A LONG TIME. i was thinkin maybe its my 9800pro to 9800xt getting to hot, i have zalman helping me keep it cool, so i didnt think it would get as hot, so i took the panel off my case and it still does it...thats not the only problem...i have 2 hard drives connected and my slave would randomly restart itself, u could hear it stop and spin up. it would effect the primary as well sometimes making the game freeze... i thought it could be the cable going to the mobo, installed a different one and it still does it. maybe its power?? so i rewired it, and it still does it, so i just disconnected my slave. yall have any ideas??? i clocked stuff down. and my temps arnt out of the normal. have any ideas??? | ||

Do you have your Ram in your Nf-7 in Dimm slots 3 to 1?

| Steam does not like SATA Raided harddrives. Something with the Raid chispet and steam translate into a random 3-4 second freeze. It is a known problem in CS Source, but I was not awear HL2 the game did it. I am not gaving the problem on HL2, but I am having it on Steam. The error is called a performance error, and bassically like I said it freezes, and then comes back. Because I am not playing CS Source right now because of HL2, this don't bother me, but if HL2 gets this error, that would tick me off. I am just waiting for Steam to release an update that fixes this problem. I am not even sure if you said you have SATA, but since I had a related problem I figured I would throw it out there. | ||

Yes they are supposed to be inserted in order. DIMM3 then Dimm2 then Dimm1 Are you really overclocking your PC2700 ram to PC3500? edit: I just noticed, you only have one stick of RAM. If I am not mistaken Don't you need at least two sticks of RAM for a Nforce chipset? Can anyone verify that? Last edited by Hurt Me Plenty; 18-November-04 at 10:35 PM..

if this is an nf7-s 2.0, then what about those of us having the same issue with dual channel ram?

| What kinda PSU have you got, with those kind of OC specs, anything but the best wouldn't really be trustworthy? At those levels, the margins for error would be incredibly important. Just a thought (also if you think it mught be your PSU, you're probably right). | ||

I am just grabbing at straws here. I had a similar problem with 'World of Warcraft' with just one stick of RAM. Fixed it with a second stick. And realized that I had pulled a stoopeed noob mistake by putting the RAM in DIMM1 to DIMM3..

One stick will work, you just won't get dual channel mode. WDOG I was having similiar problems with Halflife 2. I did a few things. 1. I deleted Halflife from the Steam window and re-downloaded. The sound file alone was in over 27,000 fragments when I went optimize the drive. Second download helped immensely. 2. Loaded the latest ATI driver. This helped quite a bit. 3. Dropped my overclock to rock stable levels. 4. Upped the AGP voltage to 1.7. It runs nice and smooth now.

| aight guys here are the answers: hurt me plenty: i dont usually run my ram at 3500 i have just goten it to there before. yeah i have 1 stick of ram, you dont HAVE to have 2 sticks to run nforce. 2 sticks just does duel channel, plus you have to have the same 2 sticks, if i could get my hands on another 512 of mushkin 2700 i would be happy. fuelman: are you haveing the same problem, but with duel channel running? antim: interested in step 1....need more info. step 2, already have the latest drivers. step 3. i have got it almost back to stock 9800xt levels, i think im just going to put it to stock and see what happens step 4, agp voltage already at 1.8v... sorry to shoot down everything. but ill play with it sommore. edit: i defraged the day after i installed it. and it still does it, wierd huh? I defragged before I deleted the game and down loaded it again. No help there, it still would pause for a couple of seconds often. Or the sound would be jumbled. It was horribly fragged though. My drive was under 20% before I activated the game and 79% after it unlocked. Not a good sign. I'm one of the peeps that preloaded the game awhile back, the last 15 minute unlock download seemed to be the culprit. Could be the servers were just over taxed the first day and content was corrupt. Counterstrike played fine so I figured it wasn't my system. If you want to reinstall: Go to the Steam window. Play games. Right click on Half-Life 2 and choose "Properties". You'll have the option to "Delete local game content". Once you delete that, it will download the next time you choose to play. Your save game files will still be there. Then check if the new download is fragged out. That should fix any bad files you have that might cause it to stall. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||

Did disconnecting the slave have any effect? Got any other power hungry stuff you could disconnect to see if it helps? Cathodes, extra fans, stuff like that. IF it's an overtaxed PSU, might help you identify it as such.

| yeah i disconnected the slave, not to really conserve power, but to stop it from getting scrambled. It was restarting it self and spining up real fast, and from experience when that happens it currupts the hdd. i turned OFF the cold cathodes, i didnt un plug them but i turned them off. playing the game more, i notice that the game LAGS a lot. when i hit ESC to go save it, when i hit save or load it lags the sound and mouse for 2-3 seconds. and when it ever gets done loading it lags in the game a couple times then smooths out. im not sure if its the power supply. agghhh annoying... | ||

| did that, didnt really notice any difference, i think im just taxing my gpu toooo much so its stressin out. i tried clocking it down, but i havnt noticed any difference. BEAT THE GAME!!!! was pretty bad ass game, wish it was longer. HL2 JUNKIE!!! UPDATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!UPDATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!UPDAT E!!!!!! remember earlier in the thred when i was talking about how my slave hdd would spin up real fast then stop during game play. I FOUND THE PROBLEM!!!! some good ol' investigating. so i hooked it back up just to see if it would work, what do ya know im 3 seconds into post and it spun up REAL fast then made the stopping sound. remember its not the primary drive so its not really affecting the way windows is loading and such. but i didnt want to lose my backup info that i keep on my slave. so i was messing around with the power wires and noticed that one 4 pins in the molex connector that was splitting to the 2 drives had some corrosion on it. so i changed it out with a new Y split and what do ya know, starts up fine with no restarts. it wasnt the power supply afterall just faulty wiring. wooooot WDoG!!!!! thanks for the support and help guys, this is why i love PimPRig because i have people just like me who love computers and gaming just as much as i do and arnt ashamed of it or anything PimPRig = Love Thanks, WDoG Last edited by WDoG; 21-November-04 at 09:02 PM.. | ||
