Default uh-oh, A64 probs

Well I was tweaking on my A64 rig:

A64 3400 (clawhammer)
MSI Neo Plat (754)
Corsair XMS512-3200xlpt (3 of em)
Raptor 74GB, WD120 SATA, WD 80 SATA

Well I was running fine at defualt settings for the last month, but then after getting all the cool PR records with my Intel rig, I thougth I would follow up the some better A64 scores. Bought the new ram (took all the mushkin and stuffed the intel with it) and was doing some OC'ing last night. Got the clock up the 250, 1:1 with some crappy loose timings (3-4-4-8) just to see what the cpu would give me. But then it did a BSOD and I had to clear CMOS to get her up and running again. Go back to defualts settings to get into windows, and now the rig runs about 50 times slower that in was..... I have tried everything I know to get it running right again. I just was wondering if any PIMPS may have a clue about which component I need to replace. I have tested all the HDDs, memory, and al PCI/AGP cards in another rig. All that is left is the CPU and mobo.....

your guess is as good as mine..... This may help me justify buying a 939 rig.....

WElcome to my world, this has happend twice to me. How a fixed it. Flashed BIOS(may have goten currupted somehow, dont ask me) Re-seeded everything in the case(you have water cooling, not sure if thats an option) and re-installed my windows partition(incase of currupted drivers and such) That fixed my problem last time.

hope this helps...

Flashing and clean install is the best advice I could give. I feel for you, my testbench A64 just ate one of my Geil RAM sticks. Came downstairs, saw a blue screen, and it wouldn't boot. I quickly pinpointed the ram as the problem, so now it's running only 256MB SC. Oh well, needed to get some more anyway.

You might want to keep an eye on the HTT speeds, they don't seem to like much more than 1000.

In the Bios you will find the option of 2x,3x,4x etc...

I use 3x

3x300= 900, for you I suggest 4x(250x4=1000) or maybe 3.5 if you Bios has the half multipliers.

I corrupted my OS in the first few days of Overclocking it, because of not setting that correctly (I suspect)

Ok, all is good in the A64 hood! I had to do a manual BIOS flash (never had done one before, but was ez) and reset CMOS, fresh install and she is back to good.

Bling for all

Thanks

Just for the record I had to do this to a local machine here in town. It was a asus A8V skt 939, so this does not seem to be just socket related....AMD64 issues? Mine is still the original bios version but I am waiting for any probs to show up.
