| I just got done building my first comp buy buying an AMD Athlon XP 3000 with 333 fsb and I had a problem. I installed it and the comp booted just fine, but when I when to control panel>system it showed that it was running at 1.3 GHz. I was told that it would run at 3GHz without any overclocking. Was I told wrong or did I do something wrong? | ||

| Sorry man, you've been misinformed. Athlon XP 3000+ runs stock at 2167 MHz . What sort of hardware are you running (mobo, psu, cooling...heck list as much as you can)? Also, i'd suggest downloading CPU-Z (It won't fix anything, and it's not absolutely necessary, but it's a nifty little prog to have if you'd like to keep up with system info that you normally only find in the bios) http://www.cpuid.com/, it will make your life easier. $Solid$ Necro has started a nifty write up on it here: http://forums.pcapex.com/showthread.php?t=28118 Last edited by droeblek9; 11-November-04 at 01:09 PM.. | Did you mean a Biostar M7VIT (http://www.biostar.com.tw/products/m...=M7VIT%20Grand)? Ok, i am by no means an expert, but off of the top of my head, there are 2 things that could be causing this (someone please correct me if i'm wrong ).Your bios settings are incorrect or your temps are running so high that your cpu is being "thermally throttled" down. What sort of temps are you running? Have you cleared the cmos? EDIT: Also, watch out with the back to back posts (it's generally considered poor form). There's an edit button on your post (lower left corner). If you need to add information, use the edit feature. I'm not trying to give you a hard time, just a heads up (some members frown on back to back posts...including the moderators) ![]() | ||

| (sorry about the back to back thing, I'm a total forum n00b) yeah, I meant Biostar, sorry if I remember correctly the temp was 32 C. I haven't checked the bios or know how to. I don't know what the cmos is though. I can't check it right now because my comp isn't where I'm at at the moment. | ||

| Sigh.... You can change your multiplier and FSB in the Advanced portion of your BIOS. You can access your BIOS by toggling the DEL key right after powering on the computer.
Yeah, they are close enough. Ps: He's so gay, that he's not. ![]()

| Hey man, no sweat about the posts (now ya know )Do you have the owners manual for the mobo? If you do, flip to page 2 and find the "clear cmos function" on the diagram (it's labeled "s"). Basically it's a jumper (small piece of plastic). What you can do is turn off the comp; unplug the powersupply from your powerstrip (no electricity going to your comp); open the case; touch a metal portion of the case to discharge any static electricity; follow the instructions on page 10 of the manual. This will reset your BIOS to the default factory settings. Put your comp back together, reconnect power and see what happens. Your temps seem good, so try clearing the cmos and see if that fixes the prob. Good luck with it. EDIT: The other suggestions that are being offered are on the money (Listen to TekX - he absolutely knows what he's talking about), clearing your cmos is probably the easiest way to manipulate the bios (and should've been done on install to make sure the board was at its factory defaults) Last edited by droeblek9; 11-November-04 at 07:39 PM.. | ||

You must learn more about how to change the Bios, your going to have to do a bit of reading....check out your motherboard manual for specifics. Most of these options will generally be found in and "Advanced" menu. Generally, you have set it to 'Expert" or "Manual" to acces these options. I know this is not your motherboard version here, but changing settings in the Bios generally looks like this. http://www.hardocp.com/article.html?art=NDM0LDI= ![]()

| I have the same CPU and here is my OC experience with it. The bad thing about the 3000xp is that the cpu undervolts itself around .1 volts under heavy loads. This is the primary reason why people have trouble OCing this cpu. | ||

| I fixed it! The problem wasn't in the bios, it was in a set of jumpers. I read the manual and saw that the FSB settings were adjusted by some jumpers and now it's running at 2.16 GHz. But I have another problem that I've had before this one. Whenever I try to boot it up, I have to try hitting the reset button a few times or shutting it completely off and turning back on. I checked the boot sequence, and put my HDD as the first but it still does the same thing.... what might be the problem? | ||

Is that when you are trying to overclock it? Try stock settings. Could it be your power button going bad? I have one flaking out right now does something similar.

| I know it's not because of the overclocking because it did it before I overclocked it, and I know it's not the power button because everytime I turm on the power the green power light comes on and all the fans and stuff start up but there doesn't seem to be a signal to the monitor. Every once and awhile it will work though. | ||
