| Well, I'm at a lan party, and we were trying to squeeze every last 3dmark that we could out of my system. We changed the FSB up to 150, and USUALLY, the system doesn't even boot. I don't even get a video signal with that setting. But this time, I got a monitor signal, and it looked as if it were going to work. It posted, but after It did all pre-boot checks, it stopped at "Building DMI Pool". Now, whenever I turn on my system, that's all it does, "Building DMI Pool". Things I've done to try to make it work: 1. Reseated the RAM (4 times) 2. Force Updated the ESCD 3. Reset CMOS (3 times) 4. Removed all unnecessary PCI cards from the mainboard 5. Removed all IDE drives 6. Changed FSB to 100 and 133 7. Removed video card and reseated it 8. Battery Trick (short connections) 9. Boot with floppy, cdrom (this doesn't work, it can even get far enough to boot from something) 10. Disabled onchip IDE controllers (both channels) 11. Disabled onboard sound (+ any unnecessary ports) My specs are: FIC Ad11 Mainboard AMD Athlon 1.4 ghz, 266 fsb 256 MB Kingston DDR Value RAM Albatron Geforce 4 ti4200p (128) PCtel modem 2 NIC's IBM 40 gig, 7200 RMP Deskstar, WD 40 gig, 7200 RPM LG DVD Rom drive Polaroid 48x Burner Floppy (Sony) Does ANYONE, have ANY suggestions as to what could be the problem!?! I really need help here...ANY suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks, (If there was any post here that I want an answer to, this would be it. ) Thanks again, | ||

| according to the FIC website FAQ your motherboard doesn't support your 1.4 athlon being overclocked at all.
I don't know if this means you fried something or what, I've never had trouble with the DMI pool. This page might be useful. | |||||||||||||||||||||

| The boot sector is fine on both drives. It's not really that crazy, either, I can (could) run 144 FSB fine with stock cooling, and temps would only get to around 40-43 C. This is not bad for stock cooler. I know the processor is fine, because it's recognized @ 1400 mhz. The RAM is still good, it still reads it. So, I frined the BIOS. *sigh* ![]() I'm going to have to learn from my mistakes I suppose. | ||

| Apex Techie Wannabe | i had the problem, posted this fix on another forum, hope it helps!! -wmb° Hey, guys, I had the same Problem and Angel's solution is the way to go. basically, when the pc hangs at building dmi pool, your bios is slashed, kaputt. you will need to flash you bios including the bios root/boot. of course, if you have the same problem as me, you cannot access any of your drives when the computer hangs, so you'll have to find another way to flash the bios. you can find a flashing service on ebay or on the web, send in your chip and the bios you want on it and get it fixed that way. if u know an it pro, he may have what is called an eeprom programmer, with which he should be able to reprogramm the bios with the version you need. the way i have done it is at home, though )do the following.. -go to a working pc that has the same kind of chip on the mobo (either DIP/DIL (rectangular kind or PLCC (square kind)). boot up that pc with a boot disk 'til u get the a: prompt. -take out the bios chip of that computer and put yours in that place- watch out for correct orientation, you'll burn your whole mobo if you don't!! make sure not to use metal parts in the case when it's turned on, so just use your bare fingers. you can use a srewdriver or similar to loosen the chip in advance so it's easier to take it out with your hands when the pc is running. - now you can flash the bios you need for your own mobo on that chip. i recommend using a software called uniflash (search google) to flash the .bin fikle onto the chip, 'cuz the award flasher didn't work for me. - the bios will be reflashed. take out the chip and replace both chips in the corresponding pc. that should be it. - i had the problem that the flash process on uniflash seemed to be corrupt. i tried several versions of the bios and eventually i had one which didn't flash the bios completely, but had at least written a new root to the bios. at that point i could at least access my floppy on my original pc- and i could reflash from there. done ![]() my mobo is a pcchips m805lr, by the way. man, what a crazy experience that was. hope this helps you guys. you should always be able to find another pc that uses the same bios chip, right? _wumbo | |

| I actually have a new motherboard from that...that was awhile back. I don't know if I will try that or not..it depends on how adventurous I'm feeling...but one of my friends had this same board, and the ZIF socket got broken....so...I'm going to see if he want to loan me his bios chip.. ![]() edit- it's a zif not a zip socket.. | ||
