Default mobo problem?

i just noticed tonite that my HD activity light is staying lit up, it isnt flashing with activity, ive looked over everything just about, and i cant see anything wrong with my system, and it appears to be running just fine, just the light is staying on......could the header on the mobo have gone out or something and caused this......or is there maybe a more simpler answer im not seeing?

The most common reason for this is that the cable is plugged in backwards either at the mobo, or at the drive.

Examine the pins on the devices, and the connectors on the cable and you will see that there is usually a missing pin, and sometimes the connector has a "plugged" hole where the missing pin is supposed to be. This should help you out

I just went in and tried flipping the connector the other way around on the pins, just to make sure i didnt unplug it and dont remember doing it, but when i turned the plug around and powered up my system, the light wouldnt even come on at all, just stayed dark......turned the system off, plugged it back in the way it was originally, and it just comes on and stays on now still....could it just be a bad led? cause i have new ones coming in the mail. or is it the header? and if it is the header...does it really matter, besides the fact that ill lose a perectly good header slot?

you know, the more i think about it.....i think when i tried to install the Viewsonic XP drivers for my monitor we were talking about in that other thread i think the light was working....i cant be sure, but i could have swore i saw the light flash like it was doing something, and then it just went solid and stayed solid when the drivers finished installin

what do you mean by function?

the HD led stay solid red, if i switch the plugs it doesnt come on at all, i would think if the header was burnt out it wouldnt light up at all rite?

i dunno maybe i will have to wait for thos replacement led's to get here......cause im stumped

It's not the LED. Dead LEDs just don't light up and on rare occasion a bad one will light up just not all the way or very slowly. Try uninstalling those drivers, if it started after the install they may be causing an odd signal causing the mobo to think there's IDE traffic. If uninstalling the drivers fixes it then it's up to you whether to reinstall 'em and just live with the LED being lit while waiting for a driver update.

Edit: gottas love 'em typos

yeah ive already uninstalled the drivers, i cant seem to get them to work so no biggy....and to be totally honest, im replacing my Lights with ultra bright leds, so if it stays lit up blue all the time, im not gonna complain itll look kinda cool =).....although if it flashed it would be cooler, but i can live without it....im upgrading in a month or two anyhow

wonder if i updated my chipset drivers would help....something is telling me i forgot to do that after my last formatting session

God, I don't know what I was thinking, I was thinking about a Floppy staying lit.

I would say that:

One, the HD LED cable isn't connected to header correctly.

Two, You have a Virus.

Three, Bad drive.

Four, Bad ribbon cable.

ive got the same problem, hd light always staying in, it works for a few seconds and flashes with activity just before windows starts to load and then stays on. I jus put all my stuff into a new enermax case, ive got a choice of 2 ide led headers on my mobo, tried them both, no joy, just stays on, scanned my computer with the latest virus definitions, clean. unless something has happened to the ribbon cable or the drives when i was moving everything accross but i was careful, ive really not got a clue and seeing as this is a pretty old thread maybe somebody came up with an answer?? any help most appreciated
