| You guys/girls seem to have alot of experience with installs and such. I recently bought an Asus a7v333, AMD XP 2200, and 512Mb of memory. I am using a codegen 350W PSU also. The first time i installed it it seemed to work OK, until it tried to load windows XP...where it stopped just after the generic post screen, then gave some error, like "cant find LDNT" or sumfin like that. anyway i reinstalled XP and low and behold windows booted. so i thought i was in the clear. then about 10 minutes working with it...the system hung. i turned the puter off, and tried to resart...nothing..."system failed cpu test" is all i heard from audio source. So i called tech support, they made me send it back. Have you ever heard of anything like that? and When I first installed the setup, i attached both of my HDD's to the IDE connector on the mobo, should i just attach the one that holds the OS and then later attach the data drive? Thanks for the help... | ||

| As far as the drives go, put the OS drive at the end of the cable, make sure that the Blue connector is attached to the mobo, and that the drives are correctly jumpered as Boot = Master, and Data = Slave, Also the Boot drive may have a Jumper setting for Master with Slave, this would be correct if present. As far as your FSB and Multiplier settings go, the info above is correct, waiting to see how it turns out. | ||

| ok heres the deal...it seems like the mobo and cpu are working fine...i hope. the only problem im haveing is installing the OS. IT took nearly 6 hours last night to install winXP...i was hoping that mebbe it was my cd player...but i have 2 and tried the other one...it is also slow. could this be related to my HDD? I had never head any problems before today...The last mobo liked the HDD just fine. Ive tried 2 diff IDE cables...When setup is "copying files" it copies a bunch real fast then will pause for a minute or so...then run a bunch real fast again. CPU issues??? i set the multiplier and the other setting to 133/33. Im so confused...im trying to install win2000 now and see if it goes any faster but its not looking good. Oh also when it got through installing it did the winXP boot screen with the scrolling blue line...then went black like it was going to run XP...but nothing ever happened. PLease HELP!!! THanks | ||

| Yea, Asus has problems like that. If you get tech support, don't get it from Asus. They make great mobos but their US tech support sucks horribly. Make sure your mobo is in JumperFree mode, otherwise it doesn't matter what you set the FSB/PCI bus at. The first time I booted my A7V333 I was running the proccy ~1.9GHz outta spec ^.^ So, with jumperfree outta the way, look at your RAM. See if it says C2 or CL2 on it, and make sure its at least PC2100. If it's not PC2100 or above you won't be able to run it syncronously with your FSB, and the A7V333 doesn't offer any options lower than that. If it's not C2 or CL2, then don't set the timings aggresively. I really think the problem here is the JumperFree settings. On the dip switches on your mobo, make sure they are all off. | ||

| thx...im getting tech support from the retailer...monarch computer...its in jumper free mode and the dip switches are off. The pc worked ok but it hung occasionally...the guy wanted to test the memory so we set it pretty agressively and it said memory error. so they are sending me a new stick of kingston pc2700...the same as before. | ||

| Tink, you may have more then one problem here also. As long as you have the time to check it out, there are two types of IDE cables also. The older IDE ribbon cables were "thicker" and for ATA66 and ATA100 devices like older HDs and CDROMS. But the newer IDE cables look like they are made from "thiner" wires and you can tell the difference when you look at them, or feel them in your fingers. They are made for ATA133 and faster devices and should work ok with anything. But the old cables won't play well with new drives. I just use the new cables for my HD only, and the old cables for both of my CDROMS. Anyway, hope it works out, hollar back either way. We like closure ![]() | ||

| my drives are old though...ive had the OS HDD for about 2 years and the 60 gig for about 1 year. would i need the cable to be 133 capable coming from the mobo to an ATA100 drive? the mobo came with 2 IDE's and one floppy ribbon...but instead of using those I have some cables that are round and silver. | ||

| Oh hoh Yes yes, we may have struck pay-dirt here. If your drives are all older, then you may want to dig out some old cables and give it another try. Rounded cables are cool at first, but I am starting to be a fan of properly folded and routed ribbon cables. Give the older ones a try and see what happens, and make sure what kind of rounded cables you ordered, or were sent ![]() | ||
