Default Intel HT vs. AMD XP ??

Is the P4 Hyper-Threading Intel's answer to the CPU architecture of the AMD XP chips? Which is better? Do games have to be written to take advantage of the HT?

Does anyone here have an 8x AGP motherboard that supports HT technology? Is this HT stuff like the MMX hype back in the days?

I have an AMD XP2800+ and A7N8X (nforce2). Were you talking about any of these?

The AMD 2700+ and 2800+ feature QuantiSpeed™ Architecture for Rapid Execution of Applications.

The nForce IGPs (integrated graphics processor) also incorporate HyperTransport™, a high-speed bus for increased data throughput.

The 128-bit TwinBank DDR Memory architecture doubles the DDR 400 (PC3200) bandwidth.

hes talking about HT on the on the P4 chip itself not the board from what i read. the nforce2 has HT as interconnects i believe. they connect the north and south bridge and something else i believe.

Yes, I was referring to the hyper-threading of the Intel P4 chips. You can go to their website which explains it. I think this is their version of AMDs Quanti-Speed Architecture.

AMD claims QuantiSpeed Architecture helps it do more work per clock cycle. This is how an XP2800 which only has a clock of 2.25 GHz is comparible to a P4 running at 2.8 GHz. Here is a link that explains QuantiSpeed Architecture

Where I work we have a couple of dual P4 Xeon machines. Hyperthreading is enabled in the BIOS. When you monitor the processor in the system monitor it shows you two processors with hyperthreading turned off and four when it is turned on. I forget the performance gain with hyperthreading turned on but it was significant for our application. Of course hyperthreading only shows significant gains when you run something that takes advantages of multiple processors.

Here is a quote I found "With hyperthreading, a chip can run two parts of an application at once, boosting performance by up to 30 percent."
