hi all,
well i just got my new rig up and running (msi kt4-ultra, amd athalon xp-2400, 512mgb cosair xms, liteon 48x12x48, maxtor 120gig, cheapo geforce mx440, all water cooled) so far everything is running perfect.........except, my system only recognizes my cpu as an 1800 not a 2400. i purchesed the cpu from googlegear.com and it was the retial version so i really dont think i got burned from them, i think its something in the system. if anybody has any ideas or has experenced the same thing let me know. thanks,

logik you might want to check you FSB in the BIOS, when i first booted up my MSI kt3, in regonized my 1600+ as a 1GHZ, turned out the FSB defaults to 100 instead of 133.

Holy Crap. That was the problem? Where was the problem? Behind the keyboard, that is where the problem was. If you don't understand how an M16 works, don't mess with it. Same applies to computers.

I appreciate the fact that logik is attempting to join the modder community. But the "error" he had was so extremely basic that my children would have diagnosed it when they were under 5 years old. Did he even attempt to correct it before posting here? I seriously doubt it.

n00bs, think prior to posting. If you don't know anything, tell us up front "I don't know jack about computers". Then we can start from basics and work from there. But posting stating "My CPU speed is screwed up" can lead to a lot of possiblities.

Someone needs to chill. I agree it was a simple problem but I think you took it over board. Somethings just slip peoples minds. Ive had the same problem as logik and didnt realize it until a little later to check it. If you read his post he doesnt state that his CPU is messed up. He said that he thought it was something in the system. Oh yeah and we are all here to help one another. I hate to say it but your acting kind of childish with your post. If you looked at his other post you can see that he realized the mistake after scapegoat told him.

Akita, you REALLY need to relax. If you honestly assert that you've NEVER made a newbie-ish mistake, asked for help, then felt embaressed that you asked when you knew the problem and thankful that someone helped you without calling you an idiot, then you are a LIAR. EVERYONE makes mistakes, and EVERYONE forgets simple things like that.

Everyone remember Occam's Razor (just in case you want to have something to use before being posted, so you don't get chewed out by someone who has an inferiority complex): the simplest solution is usually the right one.

I understand what BA is saying. Yes he's pissed off but he has a damn good reason.
