i'm not going for a high oc, i am trying to keep the cooling on the quiet side, but i am considering dropping the mult and running a higher fsb.

Well, only way to lower the multi without going through the trouble of unlocking is to use the Tbred. And, anyway, the Tbred should run a couple degrees cooler (compared to the equivalent speed on a Palamino core).
Well, maybe after you overclock, you could make a mention of how the nForce2 mobo is holding up

the nforce is running great, stable as a rock, and the onboard sound is just shy of audigy quality, (well on my crappy speakers anyway). gonna put another stick of ddr in it and see how the dual ddr works.

i'll post a bench of the dual ddr at sync speeds for a 1700+ tonight or tommorow.

For A7N8X, 2600+ 333fsb, 2 sticks of 256mb Corsair XMS 3000 and a Visiontek GF4600. Using Sisoft Sandra.

Arithmetic 7636/3089
Multimedia 11376/12145
Memory Bandwidth 2579/2464 Timings at 2-2-2-6-2T in sync at 166.
3D Mark 13384

Pretty damn decent with nothing more than aggressive ram timings.
