Default weird temp readings

I just built my first system. I am getting some weird temperature readings from my motherboard. When im in the BIOs, the CPU temperature reads between 52-58 degrees celcuis. I install a hardware temperature monitor for windows 2000 that was included with motherboard and it reads the CPU temperature between 38-45 degrees celcuis. which should i believe?

Get a third opinion

Do a web search for Motherboard Monitor.
The current version is 5.

Install it, and see what it says, if it matches the Bios, your hot and we will have to help you figure out why.

If it matches your software that cam with the mobo, then we have to figure out why the Bios says something different.

I am tempted to say that the Bios must be more accurate.

One thing about MBM5, there are different settings for you sensor type and you have to choose the right one for a good reading.

Hope this is a start for you.

Damn!! this just gets worse.

ok I install MBM5 and asign sensors; sensor1 = winbond 1, sensor 2=winbound 2, sensor 3 =winbond 3.

When i first apply sensor 1 it reads 35 degrees celsius which would agree exactly with my mobo software cpu temperature but about 10 seconds later it instantly jumps to 70 degrees celsuis. I apply sensor 2 and it starts off at 70 degrees celsius. The third sensor starts off at 75. I restart and check the bios which reads around 54 degrees celsuis for cpu and 45 for case.

If i were to cut the MBM5 temperatures in half they would read exactly along the lines of my mobo software. Sensor 1 and 2 would be cpu and sensor 3 would be case temp.

You know, the type of motherboard you are using might help us a slight bit.

I would check the voltage in the BIOS and see if it is right. On a complete idiotic idea try feeling the heat sink(ground yourself first). If those temps are right the heatsink should be very warm almost hot to the touch.

voltage in bios is right, heatsink just feels slightly warm. Gonna try flashing the bios.

did you quadruple check your heat sink mounting?

We have had several who did not line up the ridge on the zif socket with the groove on the heatsink.

Don't forget the Arctic Silver, or any other thermal compound between the heatsink and the cpu.

Do You have any case fans, your case temps sound high.

yes i have case fans and yes i used arctic silver, give me a little credit .

I reinstalled the heatsink. The cpu is running around 30-34 degrees celsuis according to MBM5 and mobo software. Isnt that a little cold for just air cooling? So at least those two agree with each other. My bios still reads around 50-55 degrees celsius for my cpu. The heatsink barely feels a little warm... barely.

Case has two 80mm intake fans, and two rear fans, 60mm and an 80mm fan

What about your fan speeds, some motherboards and power supplies can control the speed of your fans, that could cause high temps.
