Default P4 Northwood 2.80ghz processor ???

im a n00b, pls help me .....
im building a P4 2.8 system , and i was looking for P4 2.80ghz processor ... and i found Northwood P4 processor ??... now im little confuse ......i mean is it same
CPU or different manufactures.....

xtraits, that is the one. "Northwood" is Intels code name for that processor core.

Computer enthusiasts have been identifying and useing the code names for AMD and Intel chips for a few years now as there can be some big differences between them.

And example is:

AMD Athlon XP1800+ "Palamino"
and
AMD Athlon XP1800+ "Thoroughbred"

These two chips have a different core and even different features.

The Northwood is Intels current top desktop CPU and the one you want.

Well that's where we learn something I always thought that the difference between the Palamino & Thoroughbred was , one was the Athlon xp and the other only Athlon no xp , so could you tell me how can i know which is which , if that helps to explain i purchase a Athlon XP 1700+ brand new no where on the box to see which one it is.
