| Please excuse the n00bery, but I've had this problem for a little while now. It's seems that the fan on the NForce2 SPP (northbridge?) on my MSI K7N2 Delta ISLR has been rattling for a couple of months now. I've learned to ignore it as it isn't much different than an old computer making those "thinking" noises or crickets chirping from when I owned a lizard, but nevertheless I don't want it. The fan still spins, though my little system monitor program will sometimes go nuts over how fast it's spinning. I tried to take it off but really couldn't figure out how. Any suggestions? Rude Remarks? | ||

| Why the heh? Is that a joke? I'm nervous to do something like that. For me WD-40 = mechanical solve-everything, but I've never played with it on electronics. Oh and Stereo, have you seen Evil Dead 2? You'd chance your sig quote if you did (and I highly recommend you see it) | ||

| Take the fan off, if it rattles in your hand, then either do the wd40 or get a new fan. If not then it's because it's not fastened that well and is banging against the heatsink (or whatever it is sitting on). Cut some foam as thin as possible in the shape of the fan, cut out a hole for the center, re-fasten the fan onto the heatsink with the fan between them. No more vibrations. | ||

| Alright well I kind of fixed it. I think it was hitting parts of the heatsink. I didn't know how to take the whole thing off so I just unscrewed the fan part. Then I just bent it out of shape to make sure it didn't hit it. Here's where the problem struck. I lost a screw. I stood my case upright and watched the thing bounce out of the case and onto a dense mess on the floor. It was gone. So I screwed one side back on and the other side....I scotch taped. I'm a practical guy. The fan's running now and thanks to my bending, the sound ain't a problem. But here's a question. That fan isn't coming too close to the heatsink. I mean, it's definately still cooling it but it's not as close as it was originally I think. The question IS... what could be the dangers of an overheated northbridge? How would I be able to tell if it's a problem? Does it overheat all that much (my case is pretty cool, rarely rarely over 40, and I've got two fans that aren't hooked up yet.)? Thanks everyone!...Oh crap it's chirping. I'll just bend it some more, adjust the tape. | ||
