Default anything different

when switching from a regular processor to a mobile is their anything specical i need to do. i've set my bios back to normal but i can't get it to work. i am running a 2600 XP-M 266fsb and an MSI K7T turbo2

What do you mean you cant get it to work Honda? Does it not post or boot ?
What chip where you using before ?

it was a normal 2600 xp 266fsb. and it acts like the processor is bad. i boot up my computer the light on my monitor turns green meaning its getting a signal then will go back in to power saving

I'm sure you cleared the CMOS jumper on your board right ?

EDIT: It is an older board from what I'm seeing, the last BIOS update was in 2002, will the computer b00t with your old chip in it ???

What happened to the old processor??

Its totally probable that the last processor took the motherboad with it when it fried.........can you check it out with a known good chip.

2600 - M = 166MHz chip, if I rememebr the K7T Turbo is only a 133MHz board.

Time for a new board.

I doubt your mobo'll support it. It's a different architecture and I'm not sure if the mobo could handle the extra cache. (I'm assuming from T-bird,Pally,Tbred to this).

EIther way, I think a new mobo is in your future

I concur, time for a new mobo man. Even if the chip didn't take out the mobo I dont think it's going to recognize that chip, well it so far is not recognizing it.

Why not just buy a cheap mobo for the CPU.
ANyways if it does go to Ebay come here first !!! I may want it..

how much you willing to give i can't loose to much money

and whats the difference in the two besides voltage and the multiplyer being unlocked

none at the moment i have to pay off some debts but i should have 3 to 4 hundred in 2 to 4 weeks but i don't want to spend all of that

Ok, Honda thats alot of cash but you dont need to spend all of that on parts.
Post what you have right now as far as parts go, Case, Psu, yada yada.
Make sure you post everything.

its a generic case. some off brand 420 watt PSU mobo is a MSI K7T turbo2 right now i'm runnign a 7000 radeon trying to step up to a 9200se a little over a gig of PC133 sdram 160GIG westdig HDD 7200 RPM 2600 mobile 266fsb well kinda anything else

Here is a sweet little mobo for 58 bux.Sweet little mobo
Here is anotehr for $61.00 Another sweet lil mobo
Here is a ton of RAM that you can choose from PC3200 for a 512 stick is all about the same price ton of RAM

BTW I have a stick of PC2700 for sale XMS 512 65 bones shipped but If I was you I'd go with above.
I dont know if you have proper cooling for your case cuz you didnt mention but if you need fans you can prolly find some cheap on this site .
I also dont know what you are cooling your CPU with.
But all this is a good start anyways.
