Are you adding the SATA drive to a working system, or starting from scratch? (In other words, is WinXP up and running, or are you trying to install it to a SATA HDD?)

If you are installing XP to a SATA drive, you have to load SATA drivers first, so that Windows can recognize the drive.

If the system is already working, check your BIOS configuration. Make sure that under "Integrated Peripherals" Onboard Serial ATA is set to "Enabled" and Serial ATA Function (if you have such an option) is set to "Base". The drive should be detected automatically.

Toggle F6 after you boot to your XP CD. Have it load drivers from A:\
You may get a selection screen, select the appropriate driver.
(e.g. SATALink for single drive, SATARAID for a raid setup, obviously)
