Angry Mobo problems

Well, I am working on putting together a nice computer for my brother but I seem to be stuck. I have a Gigabyte K8NS Pro and an AMD 64 3200. I can't seem to get the computer to boot though. I connect the pins (I assume correctly. Positives on postitive pins and the little metal side in to the middle as if to touch the one across from it) in the lower right hand corner of the mobo. When I turn on the power the CPU fan and some of the front LEDs flicker. The ATX power supply and the ATX 12V are both plugged in. Any ideas anyone? Thanks.

ok, this is getting ridiculous, Glitter, BA, or someone, is it possible to create a troubleshooting request template that has areas of critical information that HAVE to be filled out before they can post something like this, there is no way in hell anyone can troubleshoot anything with the kinds of questions we have been getting lately...

and to whoever posted this, with all due respect, you have basically given us the automotive equivelant of this:

"hey, my car wont start, i put gas in it, and checked my blinker fluid, but when i turn the key, the headlights and wipers come on...."

how well do you think a question like that would be received at an auto-enthuseist forum?

EDIT: the word "assume" does not belong in any equation involving expensive computer equipment.....

Well, thanks for the ...kind response. I came looking for some help/information. If you do make a troubleshooting guide, please let me know. I would love to see one. It might actually help me. If you have any suggestions on what I should try and/or check, please let me know.

Got the manual there?
Please use the correct names of what you are describing,
and a list of components.
You will have a better chance of recieving help.

Your current request has about a thousand possible answers.
By listing all the components and configuations you currently have, that will
narrow the possibilities down greatly.

edit:Tread lightly, that was Fu3lmans kind response...

Without knowing your whole configuration as stated above, it is going to be hard to narrow things down but there is one thing I would try first with the litte information you gave us.
The "pins" you mention having connected to the motherboard headers (bottom right corner) may be different on your motherboard but I will assume (someone correct me if I am wrong) that those headers are connected the same as my Shuttle AN35/N's. On my mobo, I connect to ALL of these headers with the writing on the connecters facing up, i.e. all of the "metal sides" facing down rather than all of then towards the middle.
Try that first, if that does not work then you will need to provide more hardware info.

Default Specs

Ok, I wanted to post my specs and hope someone has an answer to my problems. The power is plugged in correctly, I do believe. The F_PANEL is diagramed out on the motherboard. I still can't get the computer to turn on. Anyways, here is what I have:

Gigabyte GAK8NS Pro
AMD Athlon 64 3200
ASPIRE XDREAMER case 350W power supply
2 Corsair PC2700 (333MHZ BUS) 256MB DDR
ATI Radeon 9000 Pro (until the new video card comes in)

If you need to know anything else, just let me know. Now, here are some things that I have tried or know didn't help:

Reading the manual (didn't help much)
Trading out RAM for a different type
I know the videocard works
The motherboard is elevated from the case and not resting on the metal

Here are some things that I wasn't sure about:
There isn't a listing of jumper settings in the manual (that I can find). It mentions setting system bus speed and changing jumper settings, but I don't know which jumpers do what.

Here is the manual.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It actually doesn't make a difference which way the header connectors are plugged in since polarity going to those switches and leds doesn't matter.

Try this to rule out a bad power switch. Disconnect all the header connectors, ie. reset switch, power switch, leds, speaker. Find the 2 pins that the power switch is connected to . Touch those two pins at the same time with a flat blade screwdriver. (Smaller screwdrivers are easier to do this with). If it turns on, the power switch is bad. You have to have the Power supply switch in the on position and everything connected.

Hey, that was it! When I did as you said, the computer turned on just fine. What is the best solution to this problem? Can I easily replace the switch?

Sorry, I am quite the novice... Thanks so much though. I greatly appreciate it.

Ive seen this before on several different mobos with several different psu's. Seems to be my luck i guess, but if your switch isnt bad swap out your psu with a descent one and let us know.

You can try and take it out but some cases they are almost melted into the front panel. then you can try and find the same switch at the electronics store or pick up something trick to mod into your case. All you need is an off / momentary on switch to replace it with.

The computer is working. Thanks to all who helped. The power switch was fixed and boom - it came on and booted up just fine. Once again, thank you to all who offered advice.
