Default Upgrading

Im new to this everyone. First off i have a dell dimension 8100. I have RDRAM (Rambus) for my memory. Now my question is I want to know what else i gotta know if i want to switch to a ATX motherboard so i can get a new case and powersupply without problems. Here is the link to the motherbaord i saw....

http://tomshardware.bizrate.com/mark...--7795472.html

Now will my graphic card work? ( I think it is a AGP, not sure But it doesn't lok like a expansion slot) Also I upgraded to crucial 512mb of RDRAM. So you think this is all i need to look out for when upgrading?

Please give me suggestions im really new at this and need a new powersupply + case. Thanks alot.

Your RAM and GPU should work with that mobo.

As for the case that's a matter really of personal preference to looks and performance needs, but for the PSU may I reccomend a 450W TTGI unit like mine?

You can find the PSU here for a good price: http://www.kasecom.com/product_info....products_id=92

and here is a review of the 550W variant if you need proof that this is a decent PSU:
http://www.systemcooling.com/superflower_sf550-02.html

Edit: I just read your other thread regarding this, what PSU and case did you get?

What about the CPU, do i have to buy a new one? or does the mobo come with one? Or can i just swap it from my old one...

Also, is this mobo even good? Does it matter what type you got? Could you possibly find me a good mobo that would work nicely and explain why its good = ) Thanks alot.

I would not upgrade, you will not see a performance increase just upgrading to another 850E based motherboard.

If you want better performance it's time to start with a new CPU, motherboard, memory, PSU, case, fans, and a CPU cooler, the rest of the components can be carried over from your dell.

Get an Enermax 350w or higher PSU, you don't want a cheap PSU
dragging this system to a halt. Return that rambus if you still can.

Motherboard: Abit NF7-S
CPU: AMD 2500+ (Comes with cooler)
Memory: 512MB Mushkin LvL I PC3200

You think its possible to return the memory? i got it from ....
http://www.crucial.com/index.asp?AID...57&PID=1264080

This is already costing me $351 and i still dont have a case.

This looks like a problem = / Maybe I should just get a motherboard that uses rambus..?

I Want a nice case with LEDS. But Most of they at frozenpcu.com get to be really expensive. Maybe i should buy a case w/ a PSU included? Could you possibly post a case w/ PSU that you would suggest.

Whoa, $351 for RDRAM. Don't make the same mistakes as I did three years ago. Return that RAM and use the money to get some DDR and a better processor. Here's the return information for you.

$351 for all the new stuff i want to get,.

But that return info is only for a 30 day trial. I had mine for at least 4-5 months.

DEFINITELY get rid of the RAMBUS. There's a reason you can't find a current motherboard that uses it...

Go w/ Tek's suggestion.

As for a nice case w/ a PSU included, there's the Antec Sonata

That motherboard is the same that I suggested. It's $35 less if you simply buy online from my link.
Yes the CPU will now be the AMD. Don't forget the new Mushkin DDR.

Basically these pimps are setting you up with a new computer. Is that what you are looking for? What are you looking for aside from a new PSU and case in this upgrade? Is this for gaming? Answer these questions and you can probobly get some good advice.

I agree with most everyone else on the subject of trying to sell of that RDRAM. But if you do that you have no need for the mainboard and most likely cpu. It looks like you might want to just sell off you entire machine as is and just start new.

Just a thought.

You seem to be looking at items from many different sites. I recommend ordering all of you parts, if you can, on one site in order to cut shipping costs and then you can celebrate christmas as they all show up together.

The case looks nice and it comes with a PSU which works well for you. A little to expensive for me though.

Well, the mobo + CPU + memory will all ceom from newegg. But now im stuck looking for a "nice looking" case w/ PSU

And yes it will mbe mostly for gaming & new change. And yes im dy to move out of my dell. ( hate it ) been two years since i got it. So ya im ready to change it. Best thing i can do to save some cash, is sell that RDRAM on ebay, im sure somone will buy it...

Get an Enermax 350w from the egg like I suggested, the one you chose with that case is sub-par.

The case however is a fine pick if I may say so myself, I suggest you get your fans elsewhere, like www.SVC.com (With First Class USPS shipping option it's inexpensive)

I still reccommend the 450W TTGI unit I posted, it costs 75-80 shipped and it sure as hell isn't sub par.
